    Tanning to prevent acne question.

When you use a tanning bed to prevent acne, do you use the tanning accelerator lotions or just shower then jump in the bed? I would think if your trying to dry your skin out, to prevent acne, you wouldn't want to put on oily lotions before tanning but I'm not sure.

no try to avoid those lotions... you want your skin clear and those tanning lotions tend to clog your pores.

you are trying to dry out your skin slightly, so why use something that acts as a moisturizer?

you had it right, no lotions

I don't use anything when I get in the beds. I have a pretty tan-ready complexion. I don't remember the last time I had a sunburn.

im no tannin expert but i disagree, unless you are prone to break out more with the lotions use them, I do and it accelarates the tanning process and bronzes the skin which minimizes the visual effects of the acne. I realize others will respond differently

If you are tanning to clear up your skin DO NOT put tanning lotion on your face... you will break out more

when I tan I use lotion on my body ONLY not on my face.
afterwards you can use an oil free mosturizer on your face if it gets too dry

Plus if your getting acne you want to shower as soon as you leave the tanning bed. So waste to put lotion on. I also tan w/o lotion.

I just bought this tanning bed to prevent acne and to get a good tan for summer. I don't actually have any acne, I just started my first cycle and I bought everything I need to prevent acne and every other known negative side effect of aas. This includes estrogen problems, DHT problems and acne problems. I think I'm covered for everything, I hope.

    Simple answer:

If you are trying to "prevent acne" don't use the lotion and shower right after you tan.

I don't buy the whole thing about tanning preventing acne. I see no reason it would. I think it just makes the acne less visible.

i agree with the above. dermatologists will tell you that tanning can actually irritate and inflame acne. i think it just reduces the appearance

    ^For the above 2 posters...

Vitamin D (sunlight) aids in preventing skin problems like acne.

"Vitamin D may benefit patients with skin irritations in a number of ways. Recent studies have shown that patients suffering from a variety of inflammatory conditions were often vitamin D-deficient. A significant number of patients had improvements after taking only modest amounts of additional vitamin D per day. Nearly every organ in the body, as well as the bones, contains receptors for vitamin D! Our skin, the largest organ of the body, makes vitamin D from sunlight, and also contains receptors for the more active, circulating form of vitamin D. This more active form of vitamin D may actually help retard the abnormal growth and shedding rate of skin cells in conditions like psoriasis. Though not fully understood, UV light therapy has long been an effective remedy for psoriasis relief. Since the body makes vitamin D from UV light, it is fair to say that UV light therapy is another form of vitamin D supplementation."

*Sunlight suppresses the inflammation of acne.

PS: Dermatologists can't prescribe a tanning pass, so why would they tell you to use that option?
