This is not stimulus...its nobama taking over and capitalism being flushed down the toilet.
Ridiculous. Kids are being born with debt attached to them. How fked up is that? They don't even get a chance to prove they are responsible.
Unintended consequences of government intervention.
How come big bussiness (Republican backbone) isn't complaining about these bailouts? It's funny to me how the party of big business is now trying to claim the mantel of being the party of the little guy....
I'm just as oppposed to these bailouts as anyone else. But the alternative seems for more severe to me. If we let these businesses fail, the outcome would mean massive job losses and overwhelming pressure on an already over stressed social system. The idea that letting these businesses fail would allow other's to step in with better ideas is simply not realistic. Where would these other's get the capital if banks don't exist to lend? If these other's can't get investment capital, how can they hire all these unemployed people? How then can those unemployed people purchase goods and services? The questions just continue to grow and grow. Republicans are bitching but not offering any real solutions. And doing nothing isn't a real solution.

To this point what about the bail out for GM, they got all kinds of money and it is now going bankrupt, or it may possibly go bankrupt, we wasted that money, Gm could have filed Bankruptcy and re negotiated contracts and may have gotten better without the bailout. Alot of banks and businesses are refusing to take the bailouts and trying to repay the tarp money after the AIG incident, but the government wont let them repay the Tarp and is trying to make them take the money anyway. It is all adding up to Gov. control and flatening of the wages earned by the working man. Like a welder cant make more than a secretary WTF that makes no sense. The Republicans can work this to their advantage, but you are correct, for the most part, they are just as corrupt and full of crap as the liberals, I cant even stand to listen to McCain how he bows down and kiss every ones ass. We need new government and less of it, I feel we are looking at a new congress soon and I also feel Newt Gingrich may be our next Pres. If that happens then we will definately get a lot of new congress and senate, it will be worth it, but way too soon to tell.
Republicans are the party of big business? Really? Thats interesting.....wow....
It's also interesting that in both the House and the Senate, Democrats outweigh Republicans in net worth 2:1...John Kerry, for instance, is worth 1 billion dollars. This is not just because they hold a majority either, this has been true in the previous Congress's where Republicans held the majority. Yea, those Democrats are really the party of the working man, look at Al Gore, he is really living the struggle of the American working man in his mansion and armoured SUV's. Give me a break.
I'll actually take you and the rest of the liberal Democrats seriously when you guys start practicing what you preach. How bout they start handing over 39.5% of their net worths and "redistributing" it to the people who 'need it more'.
bcmc if you have one failing its that you get a perception stuck in your head and it doesnt matter that it doesnt fit the context..you still think that way.
btw, the republicans did offer their ideas. They are being completely ignored since we have a dem pres and dem controlled congress.
Ive always been afraid of this type of scenario...I thought wild spending would follow...I was right.
Why would any company complain when they've just received billions of dollars? Contrary to popular belief, big businesses do not like free markets where they stand a high chance of failing. They love what the government is doing, so why would they complain? I would also argue that both parties have the same special interests groups. Just look at the campaign contributions of the major candidates in the last few election cycles for proof. Big Government ineveitably leads to corporatism, which is what so many people fail to realize.
Why is it not realistic to let one company fail and another take over the resources (capital, labor, patents, etc) at a bargain? Seems to me like that's the only logical answer really. If GM failed and another company like Tesla took over we might be on the road to all electric cars that do 0-60 in 4 seconds. This happened so many times throughout history that there's really no need to even go in depth into this question. If the market is allowed to work, like it was in the depression of 1920, we would have a sharp decline and a quick recovery. As compared to the great depression and today's recession where we'll have several bear market rallies, but nothing substantial for years to come until the businesses that are being propped up fail.
