    Bicep tear, Doctor problems.....

I have always used the search feature of this forum to answer my questions thanks to all the knowledgable members posts.

This time its more of a specific issue to me.....

I tore my bicep back in March 2007 and while I didnt know exactly what I had done at first (didnt hear a pop, jsut lost all strength and dropped bar on right side)...I searched this forum and read up on how to tell and what to look for.

Sure enough the next day i had bruising at the elbow and knew what i had in fact done.....my bicep didnt totally ball up but i can see a "dent" in it and some of it is gone.

That being said, I stopped working out for awhile to let it heal up and didnt go to the doctor as i wasnt in a ton of pain at all.

After a month or so I resumed working out, starting off light and working my way up carefully. I got my strenght back to 80-90% in that arm but stay away from any exercises that dont feel right or "could" cause a problem.

After a few months i was also starting playing sports,.....tennis, baseball, bowling etc. This is where i noticed a little discomfort and found myself holding back alot....especially going rock climbing.

This lead me to go to my doctor and get the bicep repaired through surgery....I was only 34 and not going to deal with that for the rest of my life since i was always very active in sports.

My doctor more or less blew it off and said that alot of people have that happen and because i was not playing any professional sports or anything that actually "requires" my arm to be 100%, he was not going to recommend me to a surgery specialist and said i would have to live with it.

Over the next year and a half i went back a few times and eventually got him to recommend me to a surgery specialist (appointment is oct 19)

My question is, what are my options if this specialist doesnt work out....I dont want to deal with my doctor again on the issue as it was like pulling teeth just to get this recommendation.

Cool I tore mine as well

Well bruh sorry to hear that. I tore mine as well. However mine did roll up in my shoulder pretty good. Somehow it did not hurt??? I went to doc and had the surgery within like 2 weeks. If I am not mistaken I was told you could only have it fixed if you went within a certain time frame and I know that time frame was under 1.5 yrs. However I could be mistaken and they may be able to do it still. I am now back to 100%. I was told I would lose like 70% of turning power and like 20-30% of lets say curling motion power so that is why I did get the surgery. I too felt some wierd feelings in the arm once back to normal. I would sometimes feel a little twitch in the little elbow "arm pit" area just above the forearm. I would also feel a sting all the way from my underside of my elbow to my thumb area. Felt like fire. That has gone away now. I say let them look at it and see what they say. If they say no don't worry about it. Just give it some more time. I seriously did not lift a single weight for like 8 months and when I did return I am sure I looked stupid curling 8-10 lb dumbells but it worked so oh well. Hey do you know the UFC fighter Matt Serra. Take a look at his (I believe right arm) next time you see him on tv. He tore his long ago and did not gedt it fixed and it works for him just fine so keep your head up and be patient.

Sorry about your injury bro, and your dr. suck. i thought you can demand that he send you to a specialist, i have HMO and i know i have the right to request to see a specialist, and i am sure if the specialist sees your injury he will do or recommend the surgery. Best of luck to you bro...
