    shin pain

I have these pains in my shins. They feel like they can be shin splints. I was wondering if I should lay off my leg workout day at all.

When I do cardio theres alot of hills in my neighborhood and the other day they started hurting real bad going up this real steep hill.

What have people done in the past for this when it comes to working out there legs while having these pains..

Today will be my leg day so some advice will help alot thanks

    Duck Walks

I had really bad problems with shin splints when I was preparing to run a fitness test...A friend is a personal trainer and had me do a few exercises to get rid of them...One is to walk on your heels and pulling your toes up as high as you can...You can also do this just sitting down...Heels on the floor and point your toes straight up...Do a few sets of these and they will help get rid of them, worked for me and I had shin splints so bad I had bruising
    Hope it helps

Try walking uphill or on a treadmill with high incline backwards...it is an old runners trick and it helps me out. Make sure its uphill.

I have the same problem. I always wonder how much I should push the pain before its counter productive. This seems to be a problem for those of us who start and stop cardio alot. People who have stuck with it for years seem like they have no problem.

How old are your running shoes!! That could be it. Also walk for 30sec at a time on your heels with your toes pointing as high as possible. Do about 3 to 4 rounds before cardio!

if you are doing cardio after weight sessions that could be a problem, once you tire your leg muscles they tend to slacken off and let your bones n ligaments take the stress of your impact work. also try stretching your posterior chain regularly including hips groin and plantar fasciitis (bottom of your foot)

^^^^ all previous posts are solid

also, I went through a sort of military training where we were forced to run everyday regardless of whether or not we had any sort of pain. (damn drill sgt.)
anyways what the physios had us do when we got shin splints is to get on the floor with a lumbar roller, go in a pushup position and have our shins on the roller toes in the air. Then roll back and forth pressure on the shins. It hurts like a mother and it's supposed to but it drastically speeds recovery. Work from side angles as well.

The only alternative is time off your feet.

Also look into getting a new pair of shoes designed for running. 6 months to a year of heavy running can ruin even the toughest shoes
