Once you know whats going on in you sleep, then you can try and decode the rest of it/the violent tendencies. A shrink might be a help too. Identify whats gonig on in your life/has gone on in your life and see why its coming out in your sleep.
I used to get night terrors. My night terrors = I'm asleep and dont know I'm dreaming, its as real as I am sitting here at the computer now. I am being chased and most of the time get caught and get stabbed, broken bones, and get killed. Mind you I'd feel all the stranglings, stabbings, etc. and wake up screaming or crying and very soar.
I went to a sleep clinic first, then went to a shrink. I might get a night terror maybe once or twice a year now. Where before I was getting them once a week give or take a little bit. I think my x-husband was the catalyst for the most part. Once I got rid of him, the terrors began decreasing with time. Ambien was also helpful.
Good luck
