    Doing business with friends...rant

    I'd like some input on my situation. About 6 weeks ago I gave my car (Corvette) to a friend to perform some work. The work was never completed and I'm still without my car.

    I've offered to help him with the job several times. Each time he says "yea, give me a call after work". I call and get "I've got to ____, maybe tomorrow." I've heard this about 5 times.

    This morning I offered again to help him work on the car. He said to call him back. I did and he didn't pick up. He later sent me a text "give me a call when you're done work tomorrow." I've given him plenty of time and don't appreciate being fuked over. Makes me want to smash his face.

    I've been close friends with this kid for a long time. He's done me several favors in the past. I'm not sure how to proceed at this point. I have a temper. Its starting to wear thin on me.

    I feel like rushing him will result in a half ass job performed on my car. Part of me wants to smack the shit out of him. Opinions? Keep in mind he's been an excellent friend in the past, and this is unusual behavior.

    I used to wrench with a lot of buddies. I was always so worried about dealing with them that it actually stressed me out. Alot of my buddies were more worried about making a few extra bucks then hoooking a friend up.

    I always gave my stuff to them for free or for a sandwich regardless of the part. They always offered me free stuff after that. I just always made sure i had my butt covered if they ever felt like they got the short end of the stick. haha

    sounds like he's being a little too leisure(ly) about it...should have got the hint after 1 or 2 calls checking on your car

    Be more assertive, but don't be an asshole...yet. Just let him know you NEED your car and if he can't handle it you'll get someone else to do it. If that doesn't work then just start being an asshole.

    I think I would politely come up with an excuse to get the car back.

    Once you have it, have someone else do the work.

    If he/when he finds out later, just tell him the truth that it just seemed like he was too busy to work on it... no hard feelings

    He might agree with you that he was busy...

    I mean if he is that good a friend he shouldnt take it personal IMO

    This is the path I'm trying to take. Unfortunately, I already paid him up front. I did this based on past experiences. Not smart. So he's got my car taken apart (motor is out). He's got my cash too.

    I haven't told him straight out that I need my car back by ___ because ___.

    Here's my thought. Give me opinions...

    "(insert friends name), Look man It's been almost 2 months since I've driven my vette. I know you're cutting me a deal with the labor, and I appreciate it, but I need my car back next weekend because....

    Now's the part where you guys finish that last sentence. Thanks again.

    my approach would be "Hey bro I really appreciate the gesture but at this point i am going to take the car somewhere else if you are not done by this weekend. No hard feelings on my end I just need my car, and I dont want this to become an issue for us, so if you arent done by Friday I am going to pick the car up cool?" Say it with no emotion at all just like you are talking about the game or something. Good Luck bro.

    If you keep letting him tell you to call you back later, it eventually becomes this whole thing where he thinks he's doing you a favor just by picking up your calls... be aggressive, show up there and tell him point blank you're gonna need you're car back. I wouldn't threaten him just yet but it sounds like it's getting veeeerrrry close to the point where you should consider it. That's just me though.

    i want it back. If you would of told me that it was going to take this long i would of took it somewhere else. Fact is, you didn't and i miss my car. Now, you're either going to fix my car or i'm going to take it and you're going to pay me back. Hate to be an ass, but this is how it's going to be.
