Smile Best sugar post workout shake?

    Members,

I have a few questions and your advice would be greatly appreciated! First of all it is important to note that I am in an aggressive fat cutting phase, while trying to maintain muscle. We have already established that my nutrition plan and split routine with cardio is working fairly well. Maybe a few small adjustments are in order. My first workout begins at 4:30 AM about 30 min after I wake up. Currently,I am taking my ephedrine/ caffine stack with about 10 oz. of water right after I wake and jumping right into the workout on an empty stomach. There really isnt time for any complex carbs to start breaking down. I have the beef or turkey from 7 or 8 hours prior. Should I be putting some Isolate whey (with BCAA's) in my system prior to that first workout?
Secondly, on my post workout shake, should I be taking some sugar with this and what would be my best sugar option in a fat cutting phase? I still need to control those carbs! My whey isolate is a low carb version.

    Thanks in advance!
    Mike

Yes some pure protein with no carbs and some bcaa are a good idea, no sugar pwo. In fact I see no reason for sugar at all. other than a bulk (dirty) I don't see the need to have anything but complex carbs. get rid of sugar unless you are using insulin.

and if you are using slin I hope you plan on competing cuz there is no other reason.

I'd suggest ingesting the whey pre-workout. Additionally, I'd suggest eating carbs in your pre-bed meal.

Personally, I prefer to train first thing in the a.m. on an empty stomach. Restructuring my diet in the above manner makes this possible. I get great pumps and no stomach discomfort.

Another option is to ingest a quick-acting protein w/ a small amount of fast-acting carbs (e.g. 25gr whey isolate + 25 gr dextrose)... However, I'm not comfortable suggesting high-GI carbs in the presence of caffeine, so personally I wouldn't go this route.

I've tried it and gotten a couple good pumps with it... but it's not a consistent effect IMO. Also, depending on the proximity to the workout (as well as the amount of fluid used to make the shake), this can lend to gastric distress.

    I prefer:
    Whey in the morning pre-workout.
    Carbs with your protein pre-bed.

You should be good to go.

Just my 2 cents here. Sugar is our enemy, any way you look at it.

Lately I have been sipping on my bcaa's during weight training and followed immediately after weights and pwo cardio, I have a whey/oats shake. As for pre-workout I dont like that full feeling while training so I just have a banana about 60 min out and 30 min out I have a sml cup of coffee w/splenda..

Like I said, this is my .02 and what works for me. Good luck!!

I was watching the Milos nutrition videos and he seemed to believe in simple sugars directly post workout. That was the first I have heard of that, so I wanted some second opinions. thanks!
