    Amateur Astronomy.....

Does anyone here own a telescope? I'm looking into them and think I might pick one up for my B-day in spring. I don't have the model information on this computer but I have it saved on my other one. I'll have to post it up another time. I believe it had UP TO a 500 times magnification..... don't know how good it was at 500x tho. The telescope is only a beginners version and costs around $350. The one I REALLY want is $1600 LOLOLOL and it's like 6ft tall with 800x CLEAR magnification!

Anyways..... While I was looking for the Leonid meteor shower last night I had such a feeling of how small I really am. I was sitting on my deck looking at Gemini's belt and just thought of how freakin HUGE the universe is..... Then I started thinking of gravity just disappearing from earth..... the earth stopping it's rotation (this would actually cause winds of around 1500mph I believe)..... I could see stars flickering..... brighter..... then dimmer..... then brighter again. Then I thought of how long ago it actually flickered...... cause it took years and years and years to reach my eye!

I'm rambling on now LOL! Oh one more thing.... The telescope I'm looking at says jupitors moons and saturns rings are visible and also nebulae's and even other galaxies on good clear nights! Crazy stuff!

I have one Haz, my mom bought it for my dad about 2 years back, and he only took it out the box once and said, WOW, what a great idea... . Never used it, so i took it to my place...
Its not the top of the range model but u can see the moon very clear with it, with it comes a book of what is where exaclty on the moon, and i can see the sea of Tranquility very clearly....
I dont use it often but chicks dig it.....

Got one a few years back and only used it once lol. It was a nice refractor that went up to 250X, but I barely got a good look at Mars with it. I sold it on ebay last year, but I'll probably get a better one when have some extra money to blow. Astronomy is awesome, 500X would kick ass, and that's a good price too.

Yeah I don't think it's going to be very clear at 500x..... I still would like to get it tho..... gotta start someplace.

I wouldn't call it a "standard" consumer telescope...... it's defiantely better than the kind you find in the mall LOL

I want to be able to see mars/jupitor and some nebulae's.....

    I have got a Meade LXD-75 Schmidt-Newton UHTC.
I do not use it in the city but only when I go to The Apennines.
    Enjoy the cosmos.

Yeah..... it's a fascination really. I mean..... it's scary in a sense to think of how small we actually are..... then again.... it's also captivating. I just want to try and understand things better..... the universe seems like a great place to start

Once I dominate the universe..... i'll try and tackle women.....
