    wanting a new career

I'm thinking of becoming a personal trainer. I've been doing college little by little and going for a kinesiology degree, but still have a ways to go. Next semester I'm going to be getting my personal training certification and going to try and go work at a club first. I'm thinking of starting at an LA Fitness or maybe a 24 Hour Fitness, most likely LA. First has anyone ever been a personal trainer at either of these locations? What's the pay that personal trainers get, just anywhere in general? Do they get paid hourly when they aren't training? I'd eventually like to try and start my own business, years down the line. So I'd really appreciate any feedback from personal trainers on here or anyone who knows about it, and if there's any tips you could give me at all.

The certification that I'm getting is my NFPT, that's what the manager at LA Fitness told me. I've also heard the more certifications you have, the more you get paid. So what would be some other good certifications to get?

i was a manager at la fitness for a short period of time. The trainers get paid shit. The managers are supposed to sign people up then they assign them to a trainer. So most managers have favorites. you only get paid for the sessions you do. You can sign people up yourself but it is hard because the management staff pitches everyone so hard.

thanks for the reply. I figured that's what it was like. I remember a guy telling me a friend of his worked at 24 and he got like 7.25 an hour plus 60 an hour while he was training. But I could see the favoritism. I applied at LA Fitness for an assistant training manager a few months ago but never heard anything from the guy after the 2nd interview. But the gym who first interview me said they rotate on the trainers to be even.

That is eventually where I would LOVE to be. But I figured I would at least need to build a clientele at a gym and build a name for myself. This is a definite dream tho

Lot's of people ask for personal trainers.

A close friend of mine made alot of money doing this at local gyms.

It usually kicks off at 5:30 am ed.

But cash under the table is a strong motivator.

Another friend does personal massages at peoples homes.

    Same deal.

yea thats called a TAM. They get minimum wage and work split shifts. So you life sucks. you get commission off who u sign up. but the gyms have been hustled its hard with the old members and they don't get enough new members to support 4-5 people selling personal training. its a joke
