    Pork as a Protein source?

Whenever people talk about protein foods, you always hear eggs, chicken, beef, turkey, fish etc. but I never hear anybody mention pork. I was just wondering if there is any particular reason why?

Boneless pork chops are very low in fat, and I assume have the same standard 6g protein per oz. like the other meats. Anybody?

i believe pork has too much fat, and the fact they inject them with growth hormones and garbage like that it makes it no good...

pork is a very complete protein, but even the tenderloin is quite fatty; perfectly ok once a week, paired with some veggies

But what do you guys think about the lean boneless pork chops specifically? I'm not talking about those fatty ones on the bone, but the nice almost all pink clean looking boneless chops?

I don't eat them everyday, so i'm not worried even if they're not ideal. However, they are a nice change from chicken or the ground turkey I seem to endlessly consume; if they're decent i'd like to incorporate them more, maybe twice a week or so.

A fine choice. I suggest pineapple and cinnamon with them. I like to sneak a slice of bacon in there too.

Never. At least not with physique in mind.

To answer the OP's question as close to correctly as possible; it is an acceptable cut but not typically seen in BB diets because it's still high in saturated fat as compared to lean beef, turkey, chicken, fish, etc. Despite the fact that there may be little to no visible marbling or fat around the edges, Pork is not a truly lean meat. Will it kill you to make it part of your daily diet? No. Would you be better off to stick with a more inherently lean protein? Yes.

What about something like lean cuts of deli ham, like the kind of thing you'd put on a sandwich?

Thanks Damien - this is the type of answer I was looking for. I will probably only eat these once a week or so, just for a change in flavor now and then.

PS - what specifically is wrong with pineapple? I don't do it anymore - but I spent the last year eating cottage cheese w/ pineapple as part of my PWO meal.

If you're doing it PWO, it can be justified. But pineapple is like the highest in sugar of any fruit I know of.

Gotcha, just the sugar content. Yes, very high indeed! I thought there was some weird chemical or something in there that was detrimental to working out!

Everything you buy from a normal grocery store in injected with hormones and anti-biotics unless specifed. Beef, pork, turkey, chicken, milk, eggs, eveything. Luckily the grocery store in my town started it's pwn Organic line of foods. Milk, eggs, sauces, even some produce. The only thing I have to buy online is my meat and turkey. I use Us wellness meats. Its 6.50/lb for ground beef, turkey and chicken. The steaks, chops, and chicken breasts are to expensive for me. The only thing I buy that's not organic is salmon and tilapia. I but that frozen

Deli meat isn't really optimal. If you absolutely have to I would go with turkey breast and make sure to get the low sodium.

If the goal is to be a ripped freak, yes actually. Look at the URL of this forum for god's sake! Casual dieters beware, I'm not giving advice based on eating "healthy" but rather "correctly" based on our goals.

    "Our" goals?

    You assume too much.

You are a 'ripped freak' that eats correctly?

When someone asks why or why not to eat a meat typically excluded from BB diets, I assume they have ambitious goals for their body, yes.
