I don't want to sound like a moron here, and I think I already know the answer - but it can't hurt to ask.
As a general rule of thumb, we know that 1oz. of meat contains about 6g of protein. The question is - is this cooked or uncooked?
The main reason i'm asking is this: I buy these frozen chicken skewers (good stuff, no additives, and they're frozen raw - it's just seasoned chicken) - the package says each skewer is 4oz. @ 24g protein - which makes sense.
However, after cooking them and pulling the meat off the skewer, I weighed it and each skewer contains about 2oz of chicken, so if I were going by what's on the box, i'm getting robbed of 12g of protein. In all fairness, I have never weighed the uncooked/frozen meat, but I doubt it loses half it's weight during cooking, even though we know water/moisture is lost. They may also be counting the skewer to get to 4oz, but it's light - and that STILL doesn't account for claiming 24g protein, so what gives?
What do you think? Can a nutritional label be THAT far off that we can't trust them?
