seems like carb depletion isnt the way to go anymore

I'm glad carbs are coming back into peoples diets, I think the trend is starting to fade. Of course carbs are usually lower on a diet, but this 30 and 50 gram/day shit is ridiculous for most people. Glad to see a trend change lately!! Finally people are getting smart

Actually when cutting they work fantastically for a very large percentage of the population. Timed carb diets (variations of keto and the like) etc.

They personally did not work with me AT ALL. Lost a ridiculous amount of strength and muscle. That is just one atypical instance though, they do work very well for others. Not sure if you're talking about bulking though, yes it's far from optimal in that case.

For me personally a low carb diet isn't and option. I never feel full, feel lethargic, have no energy and am constantly wanting food. Maybe I just need to go through the "phase" of getting off carbs I read about in keto diets so i guess I cant completely say it doesnt work for me because I havent tried all methods.

id rather have carbs--but my wife is down 19 lbs in 4 weeks--which is a little over 12% of her starting bodyweight---different things work for different people

oh yea---she was on a 40/40/20 split bfore at the same calorie deficit and nowhere near the same results

My experience has been women seem to get better results on a lower carb or carb cycling diet. Many also seem to have more sensitive GI tracts which makes higher carb diets harder for them to adhere to. As far as the OP's statement, I tend to agree. I am not saying a Keto diet is stupid or doesnt work but I think many people get intoxicated with the quick weight drop, which is mostly water and the mental aspect of once a week binge type eating. I feel better with carbs in my system and I dont mind doing cardio year round to stay lean.

I agree with this post 100%. I have seen great, quick results with keto dieting but if you don't have a lot of weight to drop - just doing daily cardio and eating good carbs sources, and not eating carbs late at night, you can get and stay ripped. Granted, I am very sensitive and never go above like 150-200g unless it's a refeed. Just agreeing.

you guys should see this trainer at my gym and what he puts people on. I think one lady is trying to sue the gym over it because she got really sick or something. Everybody that is overweight that comes in the gym talks to this sales guy, and he puts every single one of them on his carb depletion approach. When I say low carbs I'm talking under 30 grams/day. He then tells them to load up on shit like bacon, cheese, and dowse their salads in ranch and blu cheese. He has them eating shit with ridiculous amounts of fat and sodium, and its not really a healthy approach. And most of them do not stick to it anyways because they end up feeling like garbage.

Now, I have had clients I've put on a low carb diet, no doubt. I usually try the low fat approach first, and if they are not losing weight at a steady rate then I start pulling carbs. But when I pull carbs it's meal for meal, its not just yanking out all of their carbs at once, thats a stupid way to diet and a crash course to failure for 90% of the general population. Some people are carb sensitive, no doubt. I'm def not saying that it doesn't help drop bodyfat, but the bulk of the population does not need to drop bodyfat by cutting out carbs, they need to drop bodyfat by lowering their overall caloric intake and start making wiser choices when it comes to food. That was the only point I was making, I'm not saying the process of pulling carbs doesnt work for weight loss.
