    stomach pain from whey

the last 3-4 times ive had a whey protein shake ive had horrible stomach pain that lasts for a few hours. Maybe Im developing an allergy to it, but in any case I need an alternative for PWO nutrition. Does anyone know of a a good substitute for PWO protein?..im not sure about soy, pea protein...

no soy for sure. you probably lactate sensitive. find whey isolate instead of just whey protein, you can also eat eggs or fish.

egg whites sound like a good idea, but wouldnt whey isolate give me the same problem if it's a lactose problem?

from what i understand whey isolate has very little lactate, i believe there are brands out there that are lactate free.

Whey also upsets my stomach. So now I use BCAA's with added Leucine.

Egg whites are best possible food source PWO for faster serum amino acid levels.

Whey can be creating an allergy for you, the lactose theory is horseshit if it just started happening to you recently. Enzymes for lactose drop off at around age 4-6 in humans. If you have been consuming dairy since then it would be odd for an intolerance to appear now.

It also depends on the stomach pain you are getting and, if at all, this stomach pain is actually in your stomach or rather further along in your digestive tract. Usually if its an allergy due to leaky gut or malabsorption (which would not surprise me with whey) it would be in the small intestine.

Give me more info as to how long after consumption you are experiencing a problem.

p.s. whey protein is not the best source anyhow. I would only use it in a pinch, but I have not seen the rest of your diet so hard to say.|

For the person who said dont consume soy because of the phytoestrogens that is also just more bullshit. Phytoestrogens are HEALTHY...xenoestrogens are what you need to worry about.

    Update for those interested:
amd Thanks for the info C Bino that makes sense.
after that whey isolate shake i literally had the worst stomach pain in my life. I called my doctor and he said go to the emergency room, and I just got back from there. The doc said the lining of my stomach is irritated and there is a possibility of an ulcer. On a more interesting note, I also did a CT scan and the doc told me that my intestines are ABSOLUTELY LOADED with stools (maybe malabsorption from a lot of whey liek CBino said ) he suggested that i get some laxative to be safe so im blowing out my asshole on the toilet as we speak.

As I was reading this I was thinking you probably aren't getting much fiber in your diet and are all backed up, I was getting stomach pains and couldn't crap every day so I just got instant fiber powder drink and it lossened me right up. Lax's are scary cause you don't want to crap your pants in the middle of a work out or something.
