    Carb up bro science?

I have been on the CKD all week and looking forward to carbing up from 9am tom to 6pm sunday. My question is now that I am carb depleted why would I want to carb up and start all over again. I am not questioning the method, just the science behind it?

Bro - not for nothing, but if you even have to ask this question, why are you doing this diet when you clearly have zero familiarity with it? One of the fundamental aspects of this diet is the carb up. Google CKD diet and you'll find and ton of information, or look at TOP's thread in this section... everything you need to know is right in that thread.

PS - I don't mean to be a di(k, it's just that the carb up is one of the main things that separates this from a standard ketogenic (Atkins) diet, and I can't understand how you're doing it if you don't know this already?

I understand the diet, I know why you need to carb up(strength, cortisol, muscle catbolism) I am just kinda scratching my head not quite understanding. Just when you are fully depleted you carb up. Just seems kinda counter productive .Basically I am assuming your body works very quickly, and if you stop eating carbs at 6pm sunday, bye tuesday morning you are carb depleted.

I understand what you're getting at now. I think you're asking - why is the cycle only 5 days of no carb, and then you're carbing up almost right when you become depleted? From what i've read, there are a few reasons:

    1) convenience - for most people's lives, a weekend carb up is super convenient. If you were to do a let's say 7 day keto and 2 day carb up (so carbing up every 7 days instead of 5), the carb up would fall on random and different days every week which can get really frustrating.

    2) if you follow the workout suggestions, the idea is to try and become depleted and get into ketosis sooner than you would on a regular keto diet (without exercise?). With any luck, you'll be in Ketosis by Tuesday afternoon - evening. That leaves almost 3 full days of ketosis.

    3) According to what i've read, your body doesn't automatically go back to burning glucose as soon as you start eating carbs again. Your body will take care of more important functions first (replenishing glycogen) and will continue to use ketones and bodyfat for energy. Once glycogen stores are full, it becomes more dangerous to continue eating carbs because you then risk spill over into fat cells. So it's definitely important IMO to eat somewhat logically on the carb ups; you should not abandon the diet and think you can eat anything under the sun on these days.

Hope this helps bro, good luck.
