What is the best macronutrient percentages for gaining?
Again, the total calories are whats going to largely determine whether or not you gain or lose weight, not the ratios. I doubt you would notice any difference in either of the above ratios if the calories were equal in both diets. That said, I would go with the lower protein ratio of 40/30/30 given the choice when trying to gain weight.
Do you mean lower carb ratio of the 40/30/30?
I assumed you listed them in Prot/Carb/Fat order. Guess I should have asked first.
