Im not a gun expert like titanium but I think your right. Im pretty sure a 50 cal is half an inch.

Too much velocity directed at too hard a target at too close of a range = too close a call.
Ricochets are a bitch. .50 cal at a steel plate better be at least 200 yards a way. That dude might have been 100 at best.
