I have seen workouts were people have done both together since they are both "push" exercises. The only thing I would be concerned of is if you do chest first you might not be able to give it your all for shoulders.

"Virk" is right about not giving it your "all." If you want to do this split I suggest concentrate on the clavicle portion of the pectoralis major vs the sternal portion for optimal development on those days. Watch overtraining though as most exercises will pull into play the same muscles. I personally have done it a few times but keep my sets down to 3-5 combined for both.

My chest/shoulder days are back to back on my routine, and if I do not have a day off in between I can feel the difference. I can get through both workouts in back to back days but I try not to.

    Same day?

    Why?

It would be pretty hard to squeeze out the sets in an hour to get both done anyway in one session.

Ultimately genetics will be the determining factor, listen to your body above all else.

Yep genetics and how fueled u are to tackle that. I've dun it, but will do a pre exhaust, then hit the lagging muscles. I think it would be more effective that way u keep your sets down to a minimum per group.

I'd always keep them separate, since flat bench already puts some work on your shoulders anyways, plus i'd be exhausted when doing shoulders and not able to lift much (assuming I do chest first).

I do chest and shoulders together every time I train them. I've been making good progress on both. I follow DC Training, one of my workouts looks like this...

    Flat DB Press
    Machine Shoulder Press
    Closegrip Bench Press
Then Some back (Pulldowns, Deadlift etc)

another workout might look like this...

    Incline Bench Press
    Push Press or Military Press
    Skulls
    Back Work

It's been working for me so far.

this is the order i do my routine

Warm up...Push ups and Shoulder dislocates 2 sets to failure

Bench Press (changing up between b and d bells and also inc, flat and dec) 5 sets Heay>Light
    Flys(changing between inc,flat and dec) 3 sets Heavy>Light
Mill Press or Seat press 5 sets H>L
Side or Front raises 3 sets H>L
    Floor Press 2 sets H>L
then 1 more tri exercise 2 sets H>L
