Androgel vs cypionate..... better? Will doctor prescribe either?

Hi all,

I am new to this forum and this is my first time posting. I am a 38 year old male and have recently been told my T level is at 184, and from what I have read this is very low; especially for my age. My doctor has prescribed me Androgel, but my insurance company is fighting me on it. I was wondering if you all think my doctor would prescribe me cypionate instead since it is something much more affordable. I am not afraid of needles and can give myself the shots, but I wasn't sure if the doctor would do this. What do yo all think? Also, which is better cypionate or androgel? I lift weight 5-6 days a week and am hoping this will also help me with increasing my muscles mass and lowering my body fat. Will either of these work better than the other? Also, if I can talk him into letting me do 100mg per week will it do the trick? Any and all answers are greatly appreciated!! Thanks!

I am in the same boat with Testim, I am sure if ins says no doc will help you out, but that is my guess

shots are the way to go. as for the dosage it depends you and your body. I am on 400 mg now and will probably low it back to 200 or 300 plus HCG.

i would have asked the insurance company during the fight what WILL they pay for ....dont blame the for not wanting to pay for that shiat....yes a good doctor will allow for anyway that you need to administer this important hormone once you have been deemed low which in this case he already has....
welcome to the board bro...i was 37 when i discovered similar levels and started trt...i started with the gels (androgel/testim) some insurance companies pay more for either but always injections are cheaper but most of all BETTER/MORE CONVENIENT

Yeah, I have 4 kids and I also worry about transference to them. Something else I will point out to the doc. I have really liked this doc since the first time I went to him. Hopefully he won't have a problem with the injections. Fingers crossed.

I was really upset on Friday when I spoke with the insurance company, cuz I have had symptoms for 5 years. I have been on anti-depressants that made me a zombie and didn't help my symptoms. I am in really good shape except for my belly. I cannot seem to lose the fat from this area. I follow a strict diet and workout regularly. I was hoping the androgel would finally fix my issues, and it was quite upsetting that the insurance company wouldn't pay. But after reading so much this weekend about cypionate it sounds like it would be better anyway. And I don't need my insurance to pay for it. Even if I was taking 200mg per week, it would be less than a co-payment for androgel and hopefully more effective.

JPK is correct talk to your insurance company and find out what they will pay for.. thats the easiest route to go.. most will pay for the injectable just only able to get at low dosage distribution...

for example my insurance i can pay 100 bucks for 10ml @200mg/ml or i can pay 10 bucks for 2ml @ 200mg/ml.. just check what your insurance will cover.. they have to tell you what they will cover and what is required..

So, if he will prescribe 100mg per week it is only 95.00 for a 20 week supply. Which is much cheaper than co-pay for androgel. If he will prescribe 200mg per week than it is still only 95.00 for 10 weeks, which is fine with me. Still much cheaper than co-pay. I think after all the reading I have done I would rather injection anyway.
