    Training after L5 disk surgery

    Training after L5 disk surgery

I have one thread on L5 disk injury, started a new thread, to get more info

I had surgery on my L5 disk alittle over 4 weeks ago. I followed up with my Doctor 2 weeks after surgery he took the stitches out and said everything looked good and told me unless I was just having pain that I didn't need to see him anymore and to go back to work after 6 weeks. He said that's the normal time it takes for that type of surgery. Which what they did was basically cut the herinated part of the disk off. I felt immediate relief after the surgery. I still feel alittle discomfort on some parts of my leg where the nerve was pinched. Doctor said that was normal that it would take sometime for the nerve to heal. Other than that I feel good

I know alot of people on here have went through this. My question Is, after the 6 weeks I thought I would go back to the gym And just focus on cardio and core training and once I feel comfortable ease back into the weights again Does this sound good. Any advice or suggestions? Thanks guys

That doesn't sound bad. The only thing I'd be concerned with is the type of core training you do. Any sort of crunching, twisting or hyperextension motions would be bad and probably aggrevate things. Static movements like planks, side plank etc would be better for now. You can probably just go by what hurts and what doesn't.

Google Stuart McGill, if you can pick up one of his books. This guy is THE man when it comes to back problems.

Thanks for the info. I'll check out Stuart McGill to The doctor pretty much said return to normal activities 6 weeks after surgery. But after hurting that bad I'm not going to rush into anything My flexibility is tight , I can tell like when I lean some to put my socks on , so I know I'm not flexible At all right now, probably need to do some kind of stretching routine to
