Thread: Treadmill vs. Elliptical????

    Question Treadmill vs. Elliptical????

Hi. I was wondering which is more effective in weight loss. On the elliptical without holding on, incline 9 (works-quads, hamstrings, buttocks, and calves) with residence of 8 or on the treadmill without holding on, 10 residence and speed 3.0-4.0? I’m not too fond of running so I need to use a different form of cardio. I have read several articles stating that using the treadmill on incline is great way to burn calories however I can last longer on the elliptical (I can last for at least an hour on the elliptical compared to only thirty minutes on the treadmill), I was wondering what everyone else does for cardio?

Jumping up and down in your living room can be just as effective as any cardio machine. No piece of equipment is better than another for burning fat. It's 100% dependent on how much effort you put forth doing it and what you maintain your HR at.

eliptical is a bit easier on your knees imo.. I switch between both.. usually eliptical at the gym and tmill at home.

    Awesome, thanks guys.
I guess I am going to stick to the elliptical because I stay on it longer and burn more calories. <3

While I agree with the two posts above... I will say that nothing..and I mean absolutely nothing shaves it off like running does. If you were to compare them on a consistent basis for a period of time... running will win hands down. Elliptical, biking, swimming...nothing can compete. The problem is..., it is really hard to stay running steady with a solid workout routine attached. As stated above it is best to mix it up for an overall benefit. That's my 2cents.

All of that is gravy... but you must not forget about sex lol. That is by far the best way to burn calories IMO. Dyin2bpurfect... just tell your boyfriend/husband that you really want to burn more calories, so you guys should step it up a few times per day

But between treadmil and elliptical.... I choose the elleptical. For the same reason as you... I can last longer. But for some reason... after an hour of cardio, I am as hungry as a horse. So after I finish I start pounding down food

With all due respect this is 100% false. As I stated earlier no method of cardio is any more effective than any other method for fat burning purposes. It is 100% about how much effort you put forth doing whatever you are doing. If running is getting you leaner than the elliptical it is 100% because you are putting more energy into running. Bump up the intensity and/or speed of the elliptical to match your HR while running and you will burn exactly the same amount of calories as you did running. This isnt my opinion this is a fact. Also, mixing it up serves zero purpose for enhancing the fat burning effect. It may keep you from getting bored but that's about it.
