Is a stationary bike as good for cardio...

    as anything else?

Thinking about buying a cheap one, that is a type of cardio I can see myself doing for long periods which is what I need.

Definately good cardio, you only get out of it what you put into it though. If possible though put some money into the purchase if you can, the cheap ones brake pretty easily.

    I think FireGuy1 put it perfectly in a similar post;

Coincidently my current cardio consists of simulated jumping rope (ceiling not high enough in my basement) and that is it. And it just so happens that post is what made me start again!

Problem is after a while and doing it every day the calves and lower legs start to take a beating and you can feel it. I was looking for an inexpensive alternative I could do for 45min to an hour with none of those issues.

Right now I can't get past 15-20 minutes jumping. Well I probably could but at the expense of my walking the next day.

So a stationary bike would we perfect, just make sure it is comfortable.

Also out of curiosity how much money are you willing to spend?

I was looking and for about $250 you can get a decent one. I don't need anything fancy. Was thinking about searching Craig's list there is always exercise stuff on there cheap.

Very preliminary though have not got into looking at different models and what not.

definitely check craigslist. You cant imagine all the people that get on a health kick and spend a few grand on exercise equipment. New Year's resolutions last about a month. Then they're selling their sh*t on craigslist for less than half of what they paid for it. If you could find an xbike, then plan out a 30 minute intensive ride with music, ups & downs, etc. You would be a cardio machine in a matter of weeks.

I looked there when I posted last...wow I can't believe all the stuff they have for so cheap. There were some people who had things and said "just come get it, it is free!"

Lots of high end type stuff too for DIRT cheap. $200 bucks will get you an $800 machine pretty much new because the people never used it.

If I ever want to buy anything for my gym that is the firsw place I am going from now on.

I do that already, too much of it is tough on your joints and legs though.

And it rains here, tough to do it then.

Also in our part of the woods we have this time of the year called "winter", and snow is tough to run in.

Just want another option that is available 24/7/365.

I think variety not only helps with boredom, but it makes you more fit in more places, I use a treadmill, exercise bike, and ride a mountain bike with light db work at the end for upper body

I may start going out to some steep hills in the woods(dirt), and climbing those , but I have always liked being out in the woods.
