pinched a nerve in my neck and have no strength in left arm

hey guys... im going through a big scare right now. i'm wondering if this normal and has anyone went through this before... a month ago i'm pretty sure i pinched a nerve in my neck doing bent over barbell rows. the pain wasnt that bad when it happen but the next day got alot worse and day after that got even worse... the pain started in the back left side of my neck, going down and across the left side of my back, under my arm til my elbow. pain got so bad i couldnt workout. took a week off but the pain didnt go away. so i went to the doctor and they gave me medicine for pain. after about 2weeks of medcine and 3 weeks out the gym the pain went away but i still had no strength in my left arm. so i started therapy.. been going for a week now and today i went to the bench to do chest.. still no strength in my left arm. just being curious i grabbed the EZ bar to see if i can curl.. and i had no problems curling.. i tried french press and no strength.. so what i learned today was no strength in pushing exercises but i have strength in pulling exercises... has anyone experienced this problem? if so, please give me some feed back.. thank you

No personal experience. The arm/chest is innervated by several nerves that branch off the spinal cord at different locations, vertibrae. It is possible to damage only one of the several nerves that feed the arm and retain the action the other nerve cause. Take it easy, do physical therapy, and be patient.

    Good luck.

you need to talk to a physician more and get a thorough diagnosis. find out exactly what type of nerve damage was done. we can give you advice here but we ain't medical doctors. don't mess around with this type of stuff.

As goodlifting just said go to the dr do not mess around. Nerves can be permanently damaged and you could be in pain for rest of your life. I just had same thing happen to me last year. Pain in lower neck left side across scapula area into elbow down forearm into hand. I also had constant tingling in ring and pinky finger. Dr put me on neurontin aka gabapentin. Horrible mood swings depression don't do it have dr prescribe lyrica I was much better after I switched. Pills will not fix this problem get an MRI and a good neurosurgeon to look at it. I ended up having C7-T1 fusion and disk replacement at C5-C6 level on May 26. I have felt good since the surgery and I walked 5 times a day as recommended. Getting upper back and neck strength has been hard due to spasms in left side of neck. My PT is great and kept working with different exercises and muscle control to keep from using traps. Have been spasm free and making good progress last 4 weeks. Going to start HRT after I lean out a little more to help in my recovery. Sorry to drag on here but the bottom line is nerve damage can be permanent.
