    Eggs and Cholesterol

I have never really read the nutrition info on the side of the egg carton past the protein part until yesterday at the grocery store. Holy shit! There is 71% of your daily alotment of cholesterol IN ONE EGG?!? Now Im gonna assume the majority, if not all of it, is in the yolk but still. I have 4 whites and 2 wholes in my scrambled eggs in the morning and usually about 4 or 5 whole hardboiled later on in the day. Thats a shit load of cholesterol isnt it? Should I be worried about this?

Pubmed came out with a study earlier this year regarding egg yolk cholesterol concentrations possibly being able to be decreased linearly by antioxidant vitamin supplementation (specifically E and C). I'll see if I can dig it up.

Well i had been eating 6-8 whole eggs per day for a few years

Got my bloodwork done and my cholesterol levels were fine

Personally i wouldnt worrie at all

I woild worrie about taking in too much fat before worrieing about the cholesterol in eggs. If that makes sence

Ie. "shit, thats a lot of fat in 12 whole eggs" and not. "shit, am i taking in too much cholesterol"

Sugar too! Dietary cholesterol is nothing compared to the effect generally unhealthy lower-cholesterol foods have on cholesterol levels. Make sense?

There is much more to having high cholesterol then eating cholesterol. Eggs contain choline which improves cholesterol ratio and the digestion of eggs produce natural ACE inhibitors which can lower blood pressure as well.

this is strange as i was just on to ask the same question regarding cholesterol.

on the subject how would anyone advise on yolks and whites? i usually eat 6 whole eggs (raw) in the morning, would this be better if i added more whites and less yolk due to less cholesterol and fat??

cook your eggs to increase bioavailabilty and yes less yolks more whites. I usually do about a 3:1 ratio of whites to whole egg.

i thought the raw uncooked eggs were better digested and used by the body than when they are cooked??

iveeaten 8 whole eggs a day for 3 years and my cholestrol results were great, even 2 docs said the were very good.

dietary cholestrol hass little effect on serum cholestrol levels, rather lifestyle factrs such as smoking, obesity, inactivity affect them alot.

Great thread. I have been debating going back to regular eggs with something like a 3:1 ratio (whites to yolks) because I don't like the egg beaters.
