    Unhappy Subtitute for horse meat

Ok i might sound like a ***** and i admit it, my sport doctor wanted me to eat horse meat, he said that the benefits are endless, and that i need the iron.

Now eating a horse, eating a dog or eating a cat, even a rabbit is against my principle, i am not a vegetarian i still eat beef and chicken, but he told me that horse meat as a lot more benefits then those without the saturated fat and its not red meat.

I need to find a substitute for horse meat, i just added black strap molasses to soy milk in the morning because both of them are high in iron.

BTW i live in Canada and horse meat is legal here, we can get it at any market place.

I lived in asia for awhile and the only animal on your "list" i haven't eaten is horse. Here's what I found on wiki:
    Nutritional value
Selected nutrients per 100g (3.5 oz)[34] Food source Calories Protein Fat Iron Sodium Cholesterol
    Game meat, horse, raw 133 21g 5g 3.8 mg 53 mg 52 mg
    Beef, ground, 80% lean meat / 20% fat, raw [hamburger] 254 17g 20g 1.9 mg 67 mg 71 mg

the only "question" i have regarding your remark is that horse meat is not red. true, lighter in color, but still "red" i'm thinking? (don't know for a fact).

fish would probably be a very good substitute for horse.

btw.... what's wrong with rabbit? man... that's gooooooooood!!!

I was thinking in terms of a lean meat with good nutritional value, like horse.

So you mates are thinking more in line with meat you can swap out with horse meat when you cook, with a taste that may be "similar" to horse meat.

    OK, I see your point.

Thanks for your comments, i am just saying what the sport doctor told me about horse meat, he said its a lot better to eat then beef, and other red meats.

I could eat it if someone cooked it and did not tell me it was horse meat.

I just hate fish, really my GF is a great cook and she cooked salmon so many different ways but i am unable to eat that, yuke stinks to high heaven, the only fish i can eat, and force myself to is tuna.

Ok so if horse meat is that good then i might ask my gf to buy some and cook it for me, as long as i don't known what i am eating, i can eat it for some time just to get my anemia in check and after that eat red meat 2 times per week.

Problem is that i kind of thrust my new sport doctor because he gets to the cause of the problem, and give one hell of a follow up, the old sport doctor was total crap 5$ a minute my a$$ not worth that and is prolotherapy treatments sucked. This new one sent me for complete blood test and testosterone test. Gave me a lot of dieting advise that work, the only one i did not try is the horse meat.

first thing came to my mind reading your post was, if u trust ur doctor that much, why didn't u ask him that question, i bet for whatever reason he recommended this kind of meat, he'd be the most capable to provide a sub. food thats serving the same purpose, hope u do, and let us know

if $$$ isn't a problem, then yes, Elk would be excellent. And so would buffalo. I've heard, but never tried, that horse as a jerky is excellent.
