If you could afford to, would you get all your meat/fish from Organic and Free Range?

So my final year project is on the pros and cons of Intensive Farming, sometimes also known as Factory Farming.

I've made this thread in order to get an idea of peoples attitudes to this subject. I've made a poll as well.

Personally, im against Factory Farming for numerous reasons. I'm not against eating meat, but I am against what Factory Farms are and do, but I also understand the need on meeting demand to an ever growing population.

So yeah, Organic and Free Range meat/poultry/fish/dairy is considered more expensive, due to more time invested on a Sustainable Farm and not everyone can afford this stuff. As bodybuilders/weight lifters, the majority of us probably consume a ton of meat/poultry/fish in order to meet protein requirements, and lifting is an "expensive hobby/lifestyle" as it stands, without deliberating over the price of organic products.

But if you could afford to, would you get all your animal products from Organic and Free Range sources?

If I could afford it..... hell yeah. I hate factory farming.....

    Here's my opinion:

Animals give their life so I can eat and grow. They don't have the option to decide their own fate..... they're born into a life doomed to be slaughtered. With that said..... they deserve to be treated as humanely as possible. Keeping chickens packed in like sardines...... hidden from daylight..... just isn't right. I really hate eating this shit but I don't have a choice. Once i'm well off enough to eat nothing but free range..... i'm there!

Some may not agree with me and thats fine..... i'm an animal lover all around. Don't even get me started on veal..... I love it but wont eat it anymore. I'd like to find the guy I saw in the video who was kicking the baby cow to get back into it's tight cage and rip his fvcking limbs off..... that shit is downright disgusting and people like that need to get the same treatment.

I don't know. This whole "organic food" thing is a marketing buzz-term, tied in with the green movement, which is another marketing buzz-term. Ever notice how green and organic products are ALWAYS more expensive than their counterparts? Weird. The argument that it should cost more because they are nicer to the animals is hogwash. If these people really gave a shit about anything other than money, they wouldn't make it an extravagance that most of the country can't be bothered with. In survey after survey, participants fail to identify the "fresh taste" of normal factory food over organic food, it's all marketing and the "feel good" factor. One woman actually said she can taste the "essence of the banana" in what she thought was the "organic" banana, when infact they were two halves of the same banana bought at a regular supermarket.

I'm an animal lover. I'm not down with the mistreatment or useless killing of any animal...but reality is what it is. All these organic products do is fatten the pockets of some brilliant new-age hippies. Also, as pointed out before, these factories are a result of having to feed a massive and growing population, without them, most of the country would be starving. If you are looking for reverence, go out in the woods and hunt your own food...with your hands or a melee weapon.

I voted yes. The health benefits far outweigh the price increases for Organic vs. farmed meat.

It's not just about the treatment of animals..... "factory" chickens are 2x the size of "non-factory" chickens in half the time due to hormones being fed to them. It's more expensive to raise animals in an "organic" fashion because they require more food and more man hours to reach a size thats suitable to kill and serve.

And there are many more stringent regulations that must be followed to maintain one's status as an organic farmer. Oddly enough, the FDA almost got the whole organic thing right.

I'm not a real emotional guy..... but that shit made me tear up. No animal on earth deserves to be trapped in a cage, unable to walk, all so the meat is more tender. The fvckin baby cow couldn't walk because it was never given a chance to learn how to and the guy was kicking the thing to get it to move. It makes me so fvckin mad..... I really could do some terrible stuff to people who do that for a living.

If I find him - i'll give you and swifto a call..... swifto had some nice petrol idea's that also involved a drill. I'm all for that.....

Personally, I'm AGAINST the politics of "organics". Organics was originally intended to be chemical free, right? but in the beginning, big farms got a temporary waiver for a small list of chemicals that were supposed to expire in a relatively short period of time. But here's the thing.... that list grows every year, to the point I no longer understand/support "organic" farming as is marketed in the stores. Just another ploy by big business to swindle us out of our hard earned dollars.

If you have a single fertalizer you are using, preventing you from slapping the "organic" label on your product, the solution is simple. Just get a waiver!! then you can jack the price of your product, call it "organic" and the bucks start rolling in.

Who the fvck cares if it is chemical free, right?

Good topic, tough one for me though because I happened to be one of those conspiricy theory individuals.I am a avid animal lover who eats meat.I believe animals were put on this earth for our use, however I am constantly reminded of the cruelity that takes place in factory farms/slaughter houses. The problem I have with free range/organic products is along the same lines as what Nooomoto said.I feel that it is a scam that preys on the desire to be a part of something good and descent in our fkd up world.Opportunists capitilize on these wants/needs and market them in a way that gives us a "warm fuzzy" but some how always seems to put some fat cash in thier pockets.Sounds like Business 101 to me...

I agree with this. most of the food chain is free range anyway, what changed it all was supermarkets and demand, people did,nt give two sh1ts where the food came from as long as it was sitting on the shelf for them
