I would assume it would mostly depend on personal recovery time and your routine. Arnold did it and it seemed to work well for him. I only use it for biceps and triceps because when I used it for back and chest my back quickly overtook my chest and I had to train back once every other week for a year to catch up.
It just isn't that simple to answer, it is "absolutely" and "not at all", supersets are wonderful for lots of bodyparts, not for muscle gains in all situations, but for time and intensity levels, some would not recommend them for extended periods of time, yet, when I was young I did supersets every workout for months and made great gains. Very dependant on specifics.
super sets are a good way to break up you normal work out, and a cardio type weight training work out, i would say no it is not a better way to grow, i dont see pros doing it unless they are close to shows, and trying to cut down
so it really would be based on your goals...
I usually only do supersets near the end of my workout when I'm trying to get out of the gym quicker. So I've never done them for any of my heaviest sets, but with lighter weights it has worked well for me.
I would say it's a good technique to shock the muscles. Although, it's even better if you super set it with the antagonist muscle. ex.. back and chest, biceps and triceps, hams and quads..
