    beans for carb source

I've read that beans can be a good carb source, and I'm looking into incorporating them into my cutting diet. Any info on what kind of bean(s) to be looking for?? Are we talking canned beans??

Canned beans are fine - but check sodium content and rinse them before eating. I use red kidney beans and black beans mainly, but white navy beans, black eyed peas, etc are all excellent carb sources.

IMO anything that gives you gastrointestinal problems is probably not a good addition to your diet.

Beans are a great source of carbohydrates, and protein, great! Most definitely incorporate them and like gbrice said, if your using the canned ones rinse them good. Beans and legumes are absolutely great for building muscle, burning fat, and regulating digestion to name a few they also have an excellent amount of protein, fiber, folate and iron. And as far as the gas! well, go to the internet to see how to minimize this, its all in the preparation, and its perfectly normal, thats a beans job! it is actually scouring your colon and large intestine (as beans don't spend any time in your small intestines)

So eat up, they make great "add to" dishes, just be careful how much you eat in a serving and stay away from refried beans they are LOADED with fat .

I should add that I always eat my beans with rice. This creates a complete protein source as each contains the aminos the other is missing.

I love making home made chili with diced tomato, kidney beans, black beans, pepper, garlic etc and 96/4 ground beef. Packed full of nutrients that will aid in training to get big or lean, all dependent on the amount you consume.

Well said csavage, your recipe is close to mine. I add ground turkey and chicken breast to it also and I make a big pot of it at a time. I love to have it on hand so if I find myself really hungry its right there, and satisfying! I also add two whole Serrano peppers in for some spice, also it keeps you from overdoing it. Great post.

Love the pinto beans/brown rice combo. I Usually make a couple lbs of each at the beginning of the week, easy to put in tupperware..

I love beans, special black beans, I put then on water, let then soak for 4 to 5 hours, then cooked. When they are soft enough to be eating, I cook some garlic and onions, (you can add bacon too) on a fry pan, 1 spoon of whole wheat flour, then mixed with the cook beans, I have then every day with my brown rice.................
