    Coconut oil

    Anyone else using this?
We switched to it a couple of months back and have noticed a difference it our food. It tastes better and the health benefite are pretty awesome if they are to be believed. Not sure how much research has been done on the use of it.

"The health benefits of coconut oil include hair care, skin care, stress relief, maintaining cholesterol levels, weight loss, increased immunity, proper digestion and metabolism, relief from kidney problems, heart diseases, high blood pressure, diabetes, HIV and cancer, dental care, and bone strength. These benefits of coconut oil can be attributed to the presence of lauric acid, capric acid and caprylic acid, and its properties such as antimicrobial, antioxidant, antifungal, antibacterial, soothing, etc."

Absolutely correct!! it is great and very good for you, just make sure you never heat it past the temperate zone for it, I think thats 320 deg. F? maybe sticky knows, I'm just not sure off the top of my head, then it, like all oils become incredibly unhealthy! But definitely a very healthy oil.

wow, I did not know this. I thought they used it only in female soaps/shampoo and skin care products. Where do you buy this? Whole foods?

Most supermarkets stock it in liquid form here in aus, which like most oils stocked in our supermarkets, is bad for you.
I get my from the local health food store. It should be white and solid. It should start to liquify at around 28-30*c, not sure about *f sorry.

I eat mine with a spoon, or put some in a cup, and run hot water on the outside untill it turns to liquid, then put it in my shake.

Saturated fat , no double bonds so very good for cooking ( along with butter)

Awsome for making tropical berry protein shakes in a blender. I use it daily love it

Make sure it's extra virgin cold pressed non hydrogenated and comes in glass.

Coconut oil is probably the best fat source out there, especially for diets low in carbs. MCFAs are stored in the muscles and more readily available for energy/recovery. Understand however you still need to supplement with EFAs and nuts/oils higher in mono/polyunsaturates as coconut oil is a different animal altogether. Here's a product I use, especially for shakes when I'm restricting PWO carbs. 50 calories per 8 oz. - all from that fat content we're looking for. No sugar, no additives whatsoever. I put it right up there with fibrous veggies and lean protein in terms of something that you can eat all the time without worry.
