    Meal timing in the mornings

Had a general question for you guys.

I wake up at noon everyday as my work keeps my up late. Usually, i will wake up eat breakfast (steak & potatoes or eggs and oats or similar) then go to the gym at 2pm.. However, I am starting to do my cardio post workout now and am wondering if it is better for me to just take a protein shake, go straight to the gym after waking up and then eat right after?? The reason i ask is because i know it is best to do cardio on an empty stomach.. but is protein shake in the AM 15min after waking till i get to the gym, an hour work out and 30 min cardio.. then eating alright?? I.e. not injesting any carbs until 2 hours after waking up?? Trying to get my bf a little lower while still maintaining muscle.

see it doesn't bother me, thats why i was curious if it is okay to do since most people say they don't because they can npot train properly.. is that the only reason not to do it or do you need to have carbs right when you wake up?a protein shake will fill me up for an hour (i mix with 500ml of milk)

my schedule when i work late shift is this:

    9am wake up
9.05 bcaas 1 scoop of protein
    9.15 45 mins cardio
    10.15 oats, eggwhites
    11.30 pasta/rice and chicken/tuna
    1200 workout
    1330 pwo shake

my point being i break up the cardio and workout, my am cardio is biking round the open country side

weight lifting with no carbs in me would produce a poor session from experience, hope this helps

My muscles need energy before weight training...something slow acting about an hour to an hour and a half before. Than a fast acting carb after to fill the muscles back up when depleted.

I suppose what i am trying to ask is 2 hours of fasting from carbs in the morning a bad idea? Or is it more conducive to a fat burning environment?

Agreed, I can lift on an empty stomach no problem especially after waking up on a Saturday morning. But regardless I eat some source of carbs...oatmeal is typical for me.

i have actually been cooking the eggs and microzapping the oatmeal but i am going to do it raw like you say you do and try it out.

as long as you trust your egg source you are good. Tastes like nothing and i can pound 8 whole eggs in 2-3 gulps cause it literally "pulls" itself down your throat.

I wouldn't do it bro. I'm in the same boat - am workout followed by cardio. You have to pick the lesser of 2 evils in this case, and IMO cardio loses. There's no better fat burner then LBM - so I say fuel that workout with a real food protein source and some good slow burning complex carbs. If you play your cards right, you may very well burn up that fuel during the workout and essentially be doing cardio in a 'fasted' state, so to speak.

yeah see i might do cardio first thing AM as i have a stationary bike and then eat and go to the gym.. the thing is i was hoping to do 30 min stairmaster for cardio instead of bike, but with the timing of things i think this is my only option really.

If you do the bike at home, do that fasted, then eat (don't worry about eating carbs after the cardio, it's ok) then go train.
