    Oats question

    I see you guys talk about eating oats a lot. Something I have never done and am not familiar with at all. Are you talking about basic Quaker oatmeal, or something else?

    Plain whole/rolled oats. I microwave them in water, add splenda and cinnamon to sweeten, add a handful of your favorite berries, and my secret ingredient - a splash (i'm talking 2 tbsp at most) of fat free half and half just to make them really creamy. If you don't have time for eggs or another good protein source to eat along with them, a scoop of vanilla protein powder tastes great in em' too.

    this might sound stupid, but what about cheerios? those are oats.. and just the plain ones obv..

    i didnt nec mean a replacement option lol. just wondering if cheerios go the green light or if they should be avoided. nothing beats real oats, just wondering if its a good option as well

    Just stay away from the cheerio's, I'm not going to take a ton of time here on this, but the simplest function of processing a food or oat cell changes the effects it has on the body, digestion, insulin release, absorption and so on. They may make somewhat of a snack/cheat sorta thing at best. I would just stay away and stick to whole foods.

    I eat rolled oats raw. I tend to eat too much of them while at work, just grabbing some our with my fingers and popping them in.

    Need to have wate on hand though to drink. Another thing i do is mix them in with light yogurt. it still has sugar but not much.

    Oats are high in calories so be careful, but they stabilize blood sugars or a long time.

    ^^^ this. Perfectly put. Cheerios and real oats are NOTHING alike. I'm not saying cheerios are horrible, but they have no place in a BBer's diet other then as part of a cheat.

    Regular old quaker oats or any other generic brand (no sugar, no flavor, just plaint) blended into a morning shake is a great thickening agent and it provides carbs. I'm a huge fan. Been using oats for years.

    try grinding them up in a food processor or coffee grinder and throw them right in with your whey.....Like Gbrice mentioned, a little splenda maybe a little sugar free jam....yum!

    When you say, a cup of oats or a half cup of oats, are you talking about dry measure, before cooking, or after cooking? There is more afte they are cooked than before. A half cup before cooking may be like a cup and a half after cooking.

    Always go by dry measure. If you look at the container, it should specify 1 serving = 1/2 cup (dry)
