    whats wrong with my shoulder

I've had problems off and on with my shoulders for years. Usually lasts for a few weeks or months then goes away. I've had this paticular injury for the last 6 months. It's not as bad as it use to be but it won't go away and it is holding me back. I can't tell exactly what it is or what I should do, or if I NEED to go to a doc and get an mri. It mostly hurts when doing pressing movements with a barbell, and hurts worse if I go close grip. Doing incline barbell hurts, but there is some relief compared to flat. It also hurts in front raises, some standing curls, upright rows. The pain is all in the front, upper part of the shoulder where that little ball is, going up the collarbone. The worst of the pain is where the collarbone meets the shoulder. Any idea what this problem is?

i chipped the joint/bone in my shoulder there and used to have problems similar to this but it went away.. we are not going to be able to diagnose your problem over the internet.. your better off just going to see a doctor and getting an xray.. i can tell you it is not a rotator cuff.. but that is all i can tell you and all we will really be able to say since no one on here is a doctor.

Oh I know you won't be able to diagnose it over the internet, just wanted to see if anyone had some similiar injuries to compare to mine so I could get an idea of what it could be. How can you tell it's not a rotator cuff if you don't mind me asking? Only reason I'm not going to a doc NOW is because of not having insurance and I guess in a way afraid to find out what it really is, if you get what I mean. Thanks bro

well it wouldn't hurt in your joint there.. it would be the muscle usually behind it.. and you would have known if/when you injured it.. unfortunatley a doctor will be the only way to confirm what it truly is

heard on that bro. I just got a new job a few months ago and the benefits are pretty decent, so I'm probably gonna get some health insurance and make an appointment as soon as I can. I really want this to go away so I can start going hard at the gym again. I'm thinking of taking like a week or 2 off again to see if that helps. In your opinion, if you have a shoulder injury and took time off...could you still train legs? That's actually a lagging part and I wouldn't mind taking 2-4 weeks off of upper body workouts to give it rest and try to bring up my legs a little

may be a shoulder impingment, bone spurs,i just had surgery on my shoulder 6 weeks ago, also the spurs had slightly torn my labrum ligament, and weakened my rotator cuff,if i hadnt had surgery,it would have eventually torn my rotator cuff, and your symptoms sound similar to what i had

after reading up on what a bone spur was, my symptoms sound very similiar and that very well could be what it is. But like machine said, I won't know for sure unless I go see a doctor. I think I'm going to be taking a week or 2 off from upper body and take plenty of anti-inflammatories and ice about 3 times a day if I can. I also have lorcets I can take too, but the pain isn't too bad but it will help at night. It's always worse in the morning because I always sleep on it somehow, I don't know how to keep from rolling over in my sleep.

Would it still be ok to do like abs and legs for the next 2 weeks while I let my shoulder rest?

oh yea, when my shoulder was hurt,i still would do upper body, chest and shoulders, but light weights and higher reps, then when i got home i would ice it down 3 times a day for 20 mintues, but if it you feel any sharp pains stop immediatley, thats what my doctor tol me to do,because i was lifting really heavy, and he told me to go way down on the weights for a while, but if its that uncomfotable i would rest it completely like you said for 2 weeks, because surgery was hell, and im still recoverying, doing therapy twice a week,my doctor just released me this past tuesday to workout out with it again but really light to start rebuilding my strength in my shoulder and rotator cuff, cause it had inflammed my cuff and made it weak.if you have anymore questions just ask man, good luck,i would suggest to see a doctor cause you wont really know until you do,the sooner the better,i waited too long myself,if i would have went when the pain first started,i probably wouldnt have had a slight tear in my Labrum ligament and weakness in my rotator cuff, trust me if your Labrum is torn, after the surgery he tighten it up alot and ive never experienced this much pain in my life, just get it check out brother

Could also be distal clavicle osteolysis which is not that uncommon in weightlifters, or possibly some AC joint degeneration. How old are you and what is your lifting experience? Also, what other things besides lifting weights bothers you as it's pretty hard to narrow it down when you are lifting heavy weights, the majority of movements will hurt if the weight is heavy enough.

I'm 26. I've been lifting off and on for about 10 years. That's mostly when it bothers me is in the gym. Sleeping also affects it. My shoulder hurts just about every morning I wake up and that's usually when it's at it's worst. I seem to roll over on it every night when I'm asleep. I work at a restaurant, and sometimes just carrying around chairs and moving tables hurts it. But I guess they aren't that light either
