Famous musicians in different bands - but which was best?

A conversation with a friend gave me the idea to start this thread. I'm talking about famous musicians who have been in more then 1 successful band, and which band you thought was best and/or thought that particular musician was better in. I'll start by throwing one out, this happens to be a multiple:

Soundgarden vs. Audioslave - Chris Cornell

Audioslave vs. Rage Against The Machine - all Rage members minus Zack De La Rocha

I personally like Soundgarden better, although I DO like Audioslave alot as well. I'm partial to Soundgarden because of their uniqueness during the era of grunge; they didn't have that typical STP/Pearl Jam/Nirvana sound, they definitely had their own very unique sound, much like Alice in Chains did. They were a bit darker then their contemporaries, and definitely more musically apt IMO. I guess it really comes down to Chris Cornell being a great vocalist, because I thought he sounded great in both bands.

The 2nd one is interesting because again, I was a big RATM fan back in the day. They were one of the very first to fuse rap/rock as a style (yes, we all know Run DMC and Aerosmith did it first, but that was only 1 song) so again they were very unique in that. I found it AMAZING however that Audioslave is the exact same band as RATM minus the vocalist, yet their music sounds like a completely different band. Chalk it up to part maturing as musicians, but also again to the influence of a great vocalist like Chris Cornell, and how much influence the vocal style can have on the overall product.

Your turn! Feel free to comment/disagree with anything i've stated above, and/or start your own.

After rage was at a concert and walked out on stage in masks, naked with thier hand covering thier genitals, and just stood there for 5 minutes then left without playing I lost all respect for them.

Tool vs A Perfect Circle - Maynard James Keenan

Lyrically and instrumentally I would have to say both bands are great and it would be difficult to pick a favorite. If so, I'd have to say Tool only because I think their music is a tad bit edgier/angrier. My favorite song of either band, however is Passive by APC ( only because of "sentimental" reasons ).
