    225...

How many times can you bench 225? My current is: 15 reps.
it makes me feel good knowing I am almost or stronger than an nfl player.

    Right now, I'm about 10-12.

I'm only 5'7 185lbs though, plus I tore my tricep tendon 2 years ago.

225lbs I never really tried more than 12 however I did manage to bust off 315 for 12 as well when my max was 370.

I've done 34, that wasn't to nfl combine standards as i did not go to full lock out on all reps, but i never do working chest. And it was more than simply bouncing the bar 2inches of my chest. HA

Once you hit 12-15 rep strength play less and less of a part in it and it becomes more endurance. For example the guys at the NFL combine who do 40 plus reps are strong as hell but they also have agood ratio of strength and endurance! prob 60-70% strength and 20-30% endurance. I know guys who can band out 405lbs on bench for 2-3 reps but if your asked them to do 225 more then 20-25 times they would gass out...I think it kinda dumb that the nfl has not readjusted the combined standards! 225 was alot of weight perhaps in the 70's and 80's but the game is so much stronger and fast pase now...defensive line men and line backers are 30-50lbs heavier then they were 20 years ago.

Let see how many times they can do 315lbs! thats more like it!

If Im a scout Id rather see an O-line men or D-line men bang out 15-20 reps at 315lbs then do 30-40 with 225...that a hell of alot more impressive! its more use full info.

I'm 6'0 195-200lbs, and can only hit around 12. I feel very weak for my size, so I understand your pain! At the end of the day though, I don't give a flying fvck how much I can press; I care about LOOKING like I can lift a ton of weight!

Hey redz, don't take offense, not trying to call you out or make you look bad, but this is amazing if it's true. In that avy that you had up forever (before you recently changed to the ride), you looked like a pretty skinny guy if i'm being honest. Maybe it was just the pic?? *shrug*

a few years ago, i had 200lbs plus the bar on the bench. my pops asked how many times can i throw it up. I knocked out 20, the last one was a little bit of a struggle, but I probably could have done more if I wasn't afraid of it come crashing down on my face. I think i was 42 or 43 at the time.

back in the day at my best that was my warm up set 225 for 20reps. Never tried to rep out more I used it to get loose, 1RM at that time was 405. Now I'd be lucky to do it 8x

I've been thinking about taking it up just for the workout. It wouldn't hurt to learn the skills either, never know when you might need em! I'm 35 though man, not exactly a spring chicken. Don't know how i'll hold up against the kids that i'm sure make up the majority of members .... they'll be alot faster than me.

During my pro day I did it 38 times. The 225 test isn't a strength test per se for the NFL. Its more about strength endurance. Any clown can bench 225 for multiple times. Scouts use the 225 test to test perserverance and tenacity. The strength tests looked at by nfl scouts are the vertical jump and long jump because both of those show explosive strength which is necessary for football players.

Football players at that level don't train for strength. As a matter of fact, after the combine, many contracts forbid players from lifting maximum weight for fear of injury. The are more concerned about you making it through a 16 game season than being able to bench press huge weight. As a matter of fact, the bench press is the least effective exercise for a football player because it doesn't translate, at all, on the field.

So don't pat yourself on the back, thinking you're stronger than a football player because it's not a true test of strength.

Bgmc31 although I agree with you for the most part that is not entirely true. Many players lift extremely heavy especially in the off season. Dead lifts, squats, cleans, clean and jerks are all a major part of most athletes routines along with plyo work ect ect. I agree though that it is kept to a minimum during the season...in fact I would guess that most guys only get 2-3 days of lifting in during the season as maintenance...this is why a good trainer who knows wtf they are doing is so important.

My major is kin./exercise science and am planning on geting certified as a strength and conditioning specialist in order to train professional athletes...school sucks ass! lol

I'm a former player in the NFL. Trust me, most don't lift heavy even in the off season and many big time players have contract stipulations preventing them from doing a lot of maximal and submaximal lifts.

BTW, I've trained a number of current athletes going into college and in preparation for both the combine and their pro days.
