Do you train with weights? If so, there are better ketogenic type diets around - namely, CKD or the Palumbo diet (my choice).

You'll have to search the forum - you can find a GREAT thread about CKD started by Top.

If you don't weight train and are just looking to lose 'weight' without much regard to how your body actually looks (muscle mass, etc) atkins is fine by me.

Did similar to Atkins once over a 6 months period.
Read a book called Protein Power, and followed the suggested diet.
The fat just melted off, and my energy levels were elevated and more stable from my normal.....loved it.

First Timer - I just researched that book and have read absolutely incredible reviews from countless people. I think I may try this one out.

Don´t remember the author, don´t have the book anymore. This was 12 years ago.
Got it from my doc, as my cholesterol was high, my diet bad, and I was a fat bastard....prob 25%BF....however still muscular as I have always been.
I also worked out hard with weights 6 days/week, and got amazing results....amazing energy.
I guess the body enters something called Ketosis, and will burn fat for energy in absence of carbs.
I would say, since that time, I have subconsciously been incorporating the principles from that book in my diet/lifestyle. I believe in a low carb diet.

I just came off CKD. It seems to work and the idea behind it makes sense...I lost some fat, gained a lot of muscle (muscle memory), weight pretty much stayed about the same because of the fat loss/muscle gain. I just got tired of the food. I just stopped it a few days ago. I may try to find some better food alternatives and give it another go but for now...I'm not sure what I am going to do. I need to loose a LOT of fat...I would guesstimate I am 30%+ right now but at the same time pretty heavily muscled.

    I know.
It was not easy in the beginning.
I was living in the US while doing this, and I loved my Einstein Bagels for breakfast, all day beer by the pool, and Burgers/fries by the beach restaurants.
But on the other hand, I found a lot of restaurants offer "Atkins" menu, and I had to change my favorite import beer for Miller Lite (2.8 g. Carbs per bottle), and straight Vodka, if I was at a party. Ordering the burger with no bread became second nature, and I had eggs, bacon and Tofu for breakfast almost every day.
Felt weird for a month, during "Intervention", but then, as by body went to a state of "Ketosis", I started feeling great.
Not only low carb diet for appearance, but you will learn looking into this, that carbs are the cause of many diseases.
When we excavate, and find 1000´s year old remains, they find a lot of our modern health problems in areas where grains was grown....like diabetes and rotten teeth.
Today, we find an absence of these health problems including heart deceases amongst the Aborigines and Eskimos (Pure Protein eating people)

Off to google again. I can't count the number of times I have to research stuff you guys are talking about, and I have no intentions of competing in anything. I just want to look great at the beach and increase my chances of nailing random hot chicks. I have learned a ton from this board in just a few months.

Doesen´t it then really piss you off to see a smoking hot chick with a fat ugly dude...hehehe....."how the heck did that fat basterd pull that off?????"
I think we underestimate women. My last GF was super hot, and she loved my body, however....none of her ex´s were into BB, they were "normal"...but, they had other "qualities". So the primitive me was thinking...."why the heck do I then work my ass off in the gym???"....lol
But...the primitive me also love to see a woman drool when I take my shirt off....(can´t believe I wrote that...hehe)....aah, vanity is a burden..

No, it happens. I have pulled far hotter girls than my buddies think I should be capable of already. I just imagine if I looked a little better on top of it, my percentages would go up. Not to mention those other girls there was a lot of time and effort involved. I don't want a girlfriend right now, just want the option for a really fun night.

    Go for it!!
Humble confidence is beautiful, and there are many ways of building it. Appearance is one. Get on that "0" carb diet now, along with cardio and weights, you´ll see huge results by summer.
Of course, won´t help u, unless u get out of MI down to SOBE or Myrtle Beach...hehe.

I know....experience has shown me this....but we don´t want to hear it. We are here to build bodies so you think we´re unresistible, nomatter what comes out of our mouth. So let us just live with this illusion. Life is to short to alter our path now, especially in our 40´s. :-)

Hehehe...but sometimes someone meet, that both has been in this race half their life, look at each other, and say "Fuk this!!...let´s just be healthy, enjoy, and be happy"....then they sit back, relax, and watch others doing the same thing, running around strutting their AAS Pecs, fake tits, and perfect tans......
I guess since I´m on cycle, I´ll be strutting my AAS pecs for a while longer...hehe

I have actually been doing pretty good. I'm coming out of a pretty long relationship, and had let myself go pretty good. Since the first of the year I have lost 30lbs, and have gotten a lot stronger. I'm a big guy anyways, played D-2 Football and have never used gear. I am hoping I can get my body fat % down enough to run a cycle for the first time this fall. This gives me time to get more advice and make sure I do it right anyways.
