    Surgery Tomorrow! Wish Me Luck!

Well as some may know, I have been on a strict low carb diet. Have lost tons of fat while doing Insanity for cardio. Can't stress enough how happy I am now that I have lost so much weight. Still have some left to go. Ran into a big problem though. Was diagnosed with a SLAP tear in my right shoulder and need surgery. I will be getting the surgery tomorrow morning. Have had many surgeries in the past, not nervous or worried at all. Also, the doctor specializes in these surgeries, so very thankful there. The only thing I am worried about is still losing the remaining fat after the surgery. I will have to be in a sling for 4-6 weeks but I have decided I will ride the stationary bike for exercise and keep my diet as strict as possible. Low carbs!! Hopefully I can get through it fine and back to my normal strength and lifting again.

Well just got back and everything was better than they thought. Had a minor tear in labrum but had 3 bone spurs and shoulder needed to be cleaned up. Went from possible 6-7 weeks in a sling to starting therapy in 2 days!!! Very excited it was not as bad as they thought!! Looks like i'll be back in no time

Well first night sleeping with it was horrible. The block they injected in my neck to numb my arm wore off at about 2 in the morning so the pain became unbearable. Had to take my hydrocodone but that didn't do much. Still woke me up about every 20 minutes. Tomorrow i go see the doctor to get the bandages removed and to start some stretching for therapy!!

    Thanks Everyone For The Support

Yea paying my respect for the GTO's. I got an 05 myself =) love the thing to death

My shoulder is doing great actually. Have been doing therapy for a whole week now and have full motion with it. Therapist says since I'm so young and an athlete, I heal a lot faster than someone who is just sitting around doing nothing. I have an appointment Friday with the doctor to get the stitches removed and then I should be able to start lifting again in a couple weeks =) Its been so long considering I wasn't able to lift when my shoulder was messed up before the surgery. I got a lot of making up to do. lol It should be fun though

Well it's now day 11 and so far the recovery has been awesome. The physical therapist has doubled every weight and exercise since I am doing so well. By about May 10th or sooner, they will be able to put me on a throwing program, since this was caused because of baseball. She also said by then I would be able to lift weights again, so I am excited about that. So far everything has been great. Let's hope the recovery keeps going in the right path lol

The recovery all depends on the size of the tear and the tendon thats torn. I had a 20% tear in my labrum as well as my rotator cuff. The surgeon told me he basically just cut off the torn portion of the tendon, since I had another 70% still remaining in perfect condition. The pictures were like night and day. I'm hoping he will give me the pictures, and I could post them up here to see how cool it looks. lol.

As for weight, I started off at about 249 and I currently weigh a littler under 210. So give or take, 40 lbs. =) I'm trying to get under 200 at least or less and get all the fat off me, and then start lifting again and putting on all muscle. But I seem to have hit a wall right now with the fat loss since I can't really pin point how to best lose fat running wise. Some people say HIIT some say long duration jogging. Still trying to figure all that out lol

Glad to hear your injury wasn't as severe as you expected. If you get frustrated, just remember it only gets getter from now on.

Yea see I feel I would be at the point I should be at right now if I could lift weights, but I can't. Will be able to soon though. I was reading into the Slingshot Training System and I think I may start lifting again doing that. Seems to work miracles as I was reading lol

Well I am almost at 100%. Been doing therapy three times a week for 3 weeks so far. Recovery has been fa-nominal. I didn't gain weight, but I did hit a wall loosing the weight. Changed my diet around, and actually started the new diet today. We'll see how that turns out

Good luck bro... Went through a similar surgical thing on my pec and shoulder a few days before it looks like you had yours. I am still recovering but am lifting on my own like a moron... I mean I don't lift chest obviously but yah other movements seem to aggravate the area. Also am still in pretty consistent pain and today was four weeks. I wish you the best

Be careful dmk! You don't want to re strain the tendons, that would be pointless after the surgery was just done. I am currently on week 4 in therapy as well and am feeling great. I haven't started lifting yet, I don't want to re-aggravate anything quite yet. My shoulder feels great, just bothers sometimes still. I laid down on my bed and motioned the movements of flyes, and I could still feel the pain very minimal in the shoulder. Definitely not ready for that yet. I'd rather take it slow and be 100% soon, then rush it and ruin something again. Just hitting cardio hard now =)

No I have not started weight training yet. I have not been cleared by the PT as of this week. I have therapy coming up on Wednesday and I will be asking her when it will be ok to begin lifting. I have been doing cardio though. My shoulder doesn't affect that. Surgery is not fun at all. Wish I could of had it another way, but nothing I could do.

Well just a little update. Today was an awesome day. I have full motion and strength is starting to come back. In therapy today, they let me bench press and do lat pull downs. Also did some back lifting to strengthen all the muscles around. Felt awesome to lift again! Even though it wasn't much weight lol

I also got to throw today!!! They allowed me to use a small weighted medicine ball and throw it about 20 feet into a trampoline for about 5 minutes. Felt awesome to finally do that again!!! Therapist says I'm healing fantastic and just a few more weeks and I should be ready to go

Good to ear, i just switch to a low carb diet, i am currently getting prolotherapy. High saturated fats are very under rated, from beef, coconut oils and more, body needs them to repair itself, also tones of protein and fat. This is what most dietitian fail to tell people. I am glad to see you are doing so well on insanity and low carbing, you are proof that no performance is lost during low carb, if there is a program that is intense and hard its insanity.

I switched to low carb 2 months ago i lost only 10 pounds but i am taking a lot of calories to repair my body after this i will stay on low carb lower my caloric intake, and also add intermittent fasting. Currently doing Adonis Effect program the burn cycle.

Good luck with shoulder, getting prolo in lower and upper back, the hip and very soon shoulder myself.

Sorry I have been away so long. Classes ended and I have been trying to catch up now that I am home from Texas.

Shoulder feels great!! I finished my therapy right before I headed back home, and did some more while here in Miami. Started throwing a ball again, just lobbing, but felt awesome. Still undergoing some discomfort, but nothing major. I have been doing push ups easily and am able to support my body weight without effort. Only bad part is that my shoulder some times really lets me know I had surgery on it lol

Other than that, so far so good. It takes a little while to get back to normal strength with a rotator cuff injury, but my doctor says I am moving along quickly. I tried lifting a few times and although it did not hurt, it did bother a little. I am going to take it easy on the lifting until I build more strength, hopefully that will be quicker than expected.

Good to hear things have been going so well, gives me a little hope. They want to cut on me also, both shoulders for the same reason but I have been putting of the right shoulder for a few years and the left now for a couple of months. I will put it off as long as possible but eventually???

I love the look of the GTO also, I had a friend who had a Pearl White 68. I took the keys away from him more than once when he was drinking but one time he found them later, drove and wrecked it.

Damn that sucks man. The surgery really is a pain. It was definitely worth it, as now I can do so much more stuff without discomfort.

The classic GTOs are bad ass. I have the newer 2005 one which is pretty awesome. My uncle and I are in the process of restoring a 1970 Chevelle SS 454. Its almost done. Can't wait!!

Yeah I will do it one of these days, when I dont have any other options. I was told the same, minor tears and bone spurs.

I sold my 1967 Camaro SS 327cc, turbo 400 transmission (my modification in 1979) perfectly straight body, inside of the doors, fenders, trunk all pained candy apple red, outer body/shell primer, sealed, gold metalic base coat only needing the transparent red and clear for the candy, ALL new rubber seals, ALL new chrome still in the factory packages, fresh 327 12-1 pistons, 220 heads, headers, 650 holley dubble pumper, ran perfect, lump, lump, lump. Seats all re upholstered, door panels, head liner etc.

I sold it for $2500 in 1999 Vin #s didnt match and it was about 6 months before the price skyrocketed. Worth about 20K now in it's condition.

Unbelievable! That's a shame you couldn't get it for what its worth today. I can only imagine what it looked and ran like. The problem with these cars is their money traps. lol Once you spend, you can't stop spending. The Chevelle were restoring is all numbers matching from factory. We've put about $15k in it right now and we still got the whole interior and wiring to be done. Also the paint job which is gonna cost us big time.

There may be a ton of money thrown into it, and it may hurt, but nothing beats that feeling when its done and running knowing you put it all together. =D

For me it was cheap and easy. My sister did all the re upholstering. I did all the body work and painting. I had a nice garage with filtered air and good exhaust fan. I turned some NICE paint jobs out of there. Most flatter than those that had been wet sanded the first time. I use to wet sand ever 3 or 4 coats to keep things flat. Ahhhh the good old days.

See you had the expertise and pleasure of having someone who knew how to do it. We are doing all the body work and assembly ourselves, the only thing is were gonna have it painted and have all the seats reupholstered. Those are the expensive parts. It's nice to see more and more people bringing these monsters back on the road.

Yeah I loved that car. I got 22mpg with a Holley 650, small main jets.
I could take out the transmission from start to finish in 30 minutes and back in under 1 hr. I never got to try out my 2500 rpm stall converter.

When I had it running I would get hit by someone ever 6 months or less. It was a magnet.
1st time It crushed the passenger door and rear body A frame. I picked up a new body ($550) in perfect condition except for a quarter size ding/chip by the rear window. It was Black. As I was re assembling it I came home from school one day and it had been 80 deg+. My mom thinking she was helping was outside, saw the chip and part of the paint curled up. She proceeded to peal sheets of paint off the body so when I got home one side of the car had large sheets/stripes missing. YES it was hard to resist causing physical harm to my mom. I had to walk away and cry...

I got it together and 3 months later some old guy backed into me. 3 months later some guy decided he needed to trun from the far right into the store on the far left turning into my front fender. 3 months later an avon lady ran a stop sign hitting me 1/2 block from my house pushing the whole front end over 2in. I had to fight the insurance company for a month over that one. 3 months later I got cut off by a motorcycle (we were playing 120mph+) and went off a 5ft embankment landing on the nose, fell to the drivers side and back on all 4 wheels popping 2 of them. I'm sure I'm forgetting one or two. lol

It sat in my garage after all that for several years working on it little by little but it was sweet, straight, little to no bondo, all bent body parts were cut and replaced, new fenders, doors ect. Only thing left from the original car was the sub frame. Not even the A arms or brakes. Bare sub-frame that I also had sand blasted and powder coated.

    Sorry for getting OT
