my fat azz older brother needs help

My brother just go an unexpected oppertunity to get a realty good job after being unemployed and or working low paying part time jobs for the last year. He is 34 and about 270 lbs I would guess he is 35% or more body fat right now. The thing he is looking for help with is that he needs to be able to run a mile and half in 15min within the next 4 weeks. He does not do any cardio before this and is generally completely out of shape. I have him running as much as his body will alow him to right now but he is running out of wind, getting cramps, and shin splints. He really needs this job. He's got 4 kids and his wife works part time. I want to know if there is anything compounds that he could be taking right now to help him to archive his goal in just 4 short weeks? And is there any substances that he could take the day of the run to help him through it? He has expressed to me that he feels the reward outweighs the risk on using something to help him get this job within reason. edit, no rec drug talk

a 10 minute mile is not out of the question here. he NEEDS to get on a 1200Kcal-1500Kcal diet NOW and get on the treadmill EVERY DAY though.. for 30-40 minutes minimum.. no steroids or other weight loss drugs would be recommended for someone who is that far overweight. it is very dangerous for the cardiovascular system and very hard on the body

    Steroids wouldn't help.
All he can do is run as much as possible for the next month.

Tell him to hop in the pool bro. It's getting hot out and he's only going to be able to run so much. Once he's done running however he should still be able to do a bunch of laps. No impact on his joints and the water keeps you cool enough to keep going. It's also good to teach him how to breath properly. Just tell him to keep at it and the results will come...

Creatine has been shown to help endurance, it's also cheap and has no side effects, might as well get on that as well.

Thanks, I got him running everyday and he's now on a better diet. Hes going to have to make each lap around the track 3 min. so this week we are going to go to a track and set a 3 min lap pace for him to get used to running that.

but what about the day of the run? does caffine help? sugar water? an asthma inhaler?(someone I know suggested that) pain meds for the shin splints?

creatine works through atp.... so no it is useless for endurance. Diet and cardio is key to sucess. he didnt get to 270 overnight so its not going to come off overnight either

Right, because aerobic metabolism doesn't involve ATP for muscle contractions...

cut the carbs down. let the body burn it off. if he starts to feel kinda out of it thats because the brain only uses glucose for its fuel. so give him only low amounts just to keep his wits straight. Other than low carb, maybe the keto diet could be a good choice to look into and well again back to cardio.
BTW atp production and creatine are very related atp is fuel, creatine creates more fuel uptake. normal muscle failure is around 2-3 seconds without oxygen with creatine added i say added because the body does make it's own creatine muscle failure rises to around 7 seconds without oxygen. I say try the creatine.
Good Luck man always sad to see someone that far outta shape but at least he's turning it around just dont let him quit.

Best advice, after considering the risks, is to tell him to take 200mg of caffeine about an hour before he has to run. Let him take that dosage at least a few times before to get used to it.

Creatine probably won't help much, but its so darn cheap that it def wouldn't hurt.

Folks folks, creatine is an amazing thing for sure. But you have to look at it from the perspective of the 35% bf person about to run. His biggest problem will be his cardio vasuclar health. He will probably be dead from a heart attack before that creatine supplies energy. 200mg of caffeine will directly help him with his cardiovascular endurance, while you guys are talking about muscular endurance.

Have you ever gone to failure without being short of breath? Your heart is fine, but your muscles are dead. That is where creatine would help a lot.

Not after about 45 seconds is doesnt. creatine is beneficial for short bursts of energy ie: wt lifting/sprinting. type1 muscle fibers are stimulated differently then type 2 muscle fibers

exactly... creatine basically allows working muscles to continue working for an extra 4-5 seconds... Whos is doing 7 seconds of cardio???

Creatine phosphate acts as a lactic acid buffer. Less lactic acid, less soreness during cardio, more endurance.
