A new start...diet questions tailored for a post Graves Disease Diagnosis.

Ok gang, it's been five years since I have trained seriously and I am healthy enough to get the fire re-started!

    Stats:
    45 yo
    5'11" 188lbs
    34" waist
Probably 18% bf. (Photo upon request)
6 cycles under my belt, although 4 were great...the other 2 were interrupted due to health reasons.

Cycles consisted of Cyp/Masteron and Ethanate/Prop. Prop loves my body, but I can't take the freaking painful injections. Also my guy doesn't carry it any longer.

*Current cycle is 250mg/Cyp twice per week or 500mg total.

Since late 2005, I have had a total colectomy w/j-pouch construction due to ulcerative colitis and colon cancer scare, graves disease of the thyroid, graves opthalmia (eyes), and clinical symptoms of rhumatoid arthritis. In addition I had a spontaneous dump of my K+ and was in the ICU paralized for a couple of days. (This was due to the thyroid actively dying from the I-131 tx of Graves Disease) And oh, my old lady and I are divorcing...

My endocrinologist is great and know's that I have cycled in the past. He has recently discovered that I am severely Vitamin D deficient and has me on 100,000 iu of Vitamin D, (50,000 Twice per week), which helped my joint pain tremendously. My cortisol levels were checked and were just fine.

Also, we discovered that my GI tract was not absorbing the Cytomel and Synthroid properly and has put me on a new drug and at a higher dose. (TSH was 54! Not 5.4 but 54!) My TSH is down to 5.9 so he increased my dose of Troisent to 200mcg/day.

I have resumed weight training, finally. I started slowly but now am picking up the pace and have no joint pain! YEA!!!

Now...how to diet. Well in my past I made sure I was getting 1 to 1.5 grams per lb body weight in protein. I did my best with eating good carbs such as brown rice and sweet potatoes, and ate my green veggi's. 3 of my 5 meals consisted of Chicken/Tuna/Lean beef. I consumed a protien shake during each workout and then had a PWO shake + Dinner around 30 to 45 minutes. I would snack on protein bars (Detour) when I had a hunger craving.

With all that being said, I never did cardio...and I mean NEVER. I went from 19% bf and 158lbs to 10.2% and 188 lbs in less than a year.

Now that I no longer have a thyroid, it has been difficult to take the weight off. I have noticed that if I bump up cytomel from 15mcg to 20mcg/day, I would loose weight.

    My questions are:

Is there a diet that is specific to a post Graves Disease type of individual?

Does anyone have a good reference article that defines MACRO's in a less complex way?

Now that my health issues are behind me, I really want to get back to the way things were; meaning, I want to stay around 180lbs but drop the bodyfat. Shit even my face is fat!!

    All help is appreciated!

I cannot personally help you with this one, but i'm bumping this in case anybody who can didn't see it.

Not to state the obvious, but have you used the search feature about your specific question? How about google, did it turn up anything useful at all?

My wife is a nurse and a nutritionist, I'll ask her when she gets home and let you know what she says.
