    Best Approach to abs?

I know abs and calves you can basically hit everyday and them be ok but which do you think is a better approach?

Upper, Middle, Lower abs, and obliques all, everyday?

    OR

Upper/Middler one day, Lower another, obliques another day, and cycle them through the week?

Also which do you find best exercises for each section? Im trying to really build mass on my core.

Just train them like any other muscle once a week, before a rest day would be your best option. Don't worry about upper, middle, lower, obliques, yada yada yada so much. I always make sure to at least have one exercise in the transverse plane (like some sort of rotation movement) It will work your core well and will help prevent injury, other than that the basics are always good, I'm a fan of the wheel if you or your gym has one. The thing that will bring your abs out most is diet and cardio, gotta get rid of the fat that sits on top of em.

i would just do a heavy lifting routine for them once a week. if you feel like you want to do more (which i usually feel) you can do a bodyweight routine another day or two during the week.

Yes, they're just like any other muscle. If you want a flat stomach, high reps low weight. If you want them the pop out, low reps high weight. Either way only once a week.

A great exercise I have found is a twist on the usual leg raises. I read it in a bb mag yrs ago, by a pro bb, can't remember his bloody name though.
Basically lie on a bench, grip it behind your head, position your legs straight up pointing at ceiling, then roll up your hips and try to touch the ceiling with your toes. Try to feel the abs working as much as poss, and make sure your legs dont come up towards you too much or it takes the tension off the abs. Do this strict and it burns like f*&k. Works abs well as they are lifting the full weight of your legs.

I like incline bench situps, but not bending the spine, keeping as rigid as possible. That'll get those lower abs for sure!!!!

Out of interest, what diet are we looking at to get the most out of abs? Low carbs? Medium carbs and more cardio?

for men abs is all about bodyfat percentage, Thats where we're geneticly programmed to store fat. lose the fat, then work them once a week. Even though your abs/core gets a lot of work through other workouts. Sometimes my abs get sore from doing weighted pullups

Remember that your abs get hit EVERY workout. Every muscular contraction originates there, and they get especially drilled when you do legs and chins. So one day per week of heavy ab work should be enough. Then again, I've always had very low bodyfat and have never had to work my abs on their own, so what the hell do I know neways? Disregard me.
