    Rotor Cuff surgery log

So I have surgery scheduled in the am tommorow. They are delevering a machine to pasively move my arm around today. I plan on posting daily on how this repair goes and So On.

I am 57 have had shoulder issues for years. But blew them out 2 months ago doing supper set of Military press and pull ups. Very dumb of me.

took three weeks to decided this was not going to improve
Tree weeks to get mri approved then a month to get surgery scheduled and approved.

Surgen has good rep as sports guy and has done a ton of these it is scheduled to be scoped however the reserve the right to open it up if needed.

Will write a little if up to it after surgery.

    Good luck!!

I had mine done about 6 years ago. My cuff was torn 98% off the bone. They had to wire and screw it down to keep it in place long enough to reattach itself. My surgery was a nightmare. They warned me not to 'fall behind' on taking the meds but I puked for 12 hours so I couldnt take them. The first 72 hours after the surgery was horrible.

My daughter had hers done last spring (gymnast) she had a nerve block and everything went awesome. So I would recommend asking about a nerve block.

Another 'must have' is the cooler thing that pumps water through a cooler full of ice and then circulates it through the ice pack on your shoulder. Works wonders!

Best thing I ever did though...my shoulder feels great. Wish I hadnt waited so long to get it fixed. Great being able to concentrate on your lift and not being distracted by the terrible pain running through your body. Only regret is not keeping up on my physical therapy and lost some mobility.

    Keep us posted!

I'm pretty much in the same boat as you....Just had labral surgery on Tuesday..Surgery went well had a great doc..My only concerns is how my shoulder will turn out in the long run..I have months ahead of me before I can even think of lifting heavy again. I really hope it will turn out well, it would be my WORST NIGHTMARE if I can't get back to lifting heavy.....

Hope all turns out well for you

good luck man!!! I had bone spurs and my labrum repaired back in jan of this year,it was hell to be honest, when they gave me the nerve block, they cut a nerve and when it wore off,i ended up in the hospital for 3 days, after that,i went home and stayed with therapy for 12 weeks and a month ago i just started working out with my arm again,i too lift heavy, and its gonna be at least a year before i even try it,im gonna take it slow and easy, cause surgery sucked...

Yeah the worst feeling I've ever had in my life is wanting to lift but couldn't even if I wanted to...I really haven't had much pain at all, obviously I can't move my shoulder or else its painful but other then that when its in my sling I have no pain..It's really starting to trip me out actually...

I had a small tear in my labrum my doc stitched up..Said it wasn't too bad so hopefully I will heal up fast...

So its been about 4 months for now huh?? How does it feel lifting wise?? Can you do any light weight chest/shoulders??

Doc said that was fine? Ice is usually only good to do for 10-20 minutes or else it does the opposite of what you want..

For the first 10-20 the blood with rush away from the area but any longer the body will start to think that part of the body is freezing and then it does opposite.....Blood will begin to rush back to that part of the body to prevent freezing which is not want you want......

yea i started back with my shoulder a month ago in the gym,i started out light on my bench,i went like 4 sets of 10 on flat with like 115 and the same on incline, and went up about 2.5-5 lbs every set, just depended on how my shoulder was feeling,it still was really sore down the top part of my shoulder down to my elbow, because he tighted up my labrum so tight,he said it would hurt a little at first and the further i let the bar down to my chest the more it would hurt,so i would stop at about 3-4" above my chest until it wasnt hurting and just been working my way up in weight every week, but its funny,my inclines dont hurt as much as my flat benchs, and i started out with 40lb db's on flat bench and it was ok,and now im up to 60lb db and up to 185lb benching,im taking it slow, cause i dont want to mess anything up lol,im still gun shy i guess

How long did they say until they remove your incision stitches? I see my doc on thursday so I guess he will do it then

Definitely man, I'm babying my shit and will continue to do so for a long time...I haven't been able to lift for awhile now but I figure its best to just sit and wait this shit out for months no matter how hard it will be...

I had shoulder surgery about 4 weeks ago to repair a torn AC joint. Went to the gym for the first time yesterday and did some real light back work, 5lb lateral shoulder raises, and abs. I'm taking it real slow as well. Doc said it would be 4-5 months before starting to lift heavy again so I'm keeping everything light. I feel like I've gotten so out of shape and it's only been a month! I feel your pain

I tore my rotorcuff back in 09.I had a 1 inch gap shredded bicep tendon.Took me 2 weeks to figure out that it wont fix itself. Now after all this time. They finally listened to me.I had pain and numbness headaches. So they did a mri on my neck.# bulging discs. All I can say is do wat the Doc says.Dont rush it.From wat I have read on this.Everyone who has.Regretted it.They said they had to have it fixed again.Play poker leave the weights alone for a long while.Good luck.

1 month out check up was good. Get to ditch the sling. Start PT on Monday three days/week. Will get back into the gym and start to do cardio and legs next week. I have gain 10 pounds since surgery. Need to clean up diet and start getting after what I can. Hope the shoulder will lossen up so I can ride my bike daily. The Biggest month of poker in vegas started this week so will be kept busy. Some pain in strange places just bellow shoulder blade and Bicep area are the worse. Doc says had bad tear in tendon going to bicep and back is from not using shoulder for a month.

How did you do in the last poker tournament? Sounds like your progress is good. I will be doing the same as you someday. I tore mine years ago and so far I have been working through the pain/discomfort. I dont want the down time again and have to start over loosing everything I gained the last 3 years. Someday I wont have a choice, like you but it's not today.

Good luck and keep up the log.

First PT session yesterday. Thepist was pretty happy with where I was he was able to get 12o degrees of motion. So for next two weeks 3 pt session a week passive motion only. He streches it. I stretch it using cables no restience. Another two weeks untill can start that. Pain is dull ache he says most of that is bone pain from grinding it down.

    TWO mONTH UPDATE.

things get metter day by day but the going is slow. Doing PT two time a week. Whenever we do a new excercise it hurst like hell. but is much better the second time. Up to using one pound weights for prone laterial raises with palm flat. Untill you lose all use of somthing and have to start over you do notg recall how your muscels are hook together. everthing hurst from the shouldler to the lats and the arm down th the fingers. back int the gym doing lower body only but it is at least somehting. Still lots of pain mostly at night and early morning untill I stretch it out.

It's guys likke you and stories like this that make me so no thanks to my doctor like last week when he told me now my left shoulder needs cleaned up due to injury same as he told me about my right one 2 years ago. Right one got batter slowly over time, left one is better as long as I dont lift heavy or about 50% of normal. I'm hoping another month or two and Ill be back up to 80% or more but still wont go heavy any more and concentrate one warming up.

Glad to hear you are progressing and keep up the good work but I can imagine it sucks.

Yea have been bad for about 20 years but it got to the point that I could not lift it past 90 with even a little weight so had to have it done but our right it sucks. I would not advise it unless you just can not function.
