IMO a cheat day is just too much, but I guess it really depends on your current stats, goals, etc. If you're cutting, it would be a really bad idea as a day of cheating can easily negate a week's worth of caloric deficit. Personally, if you're going with a once a week kind of thing, i'd say a cheat meal is enough. Appetizer, bread, meal, drinks, dessert, the whole 9 - but then back to the diet.

If I wanted a true cheat day, full blown, i'd limit it to once a month. Just my personal opinion.

Agreed, the only time I could see a full blown cheat day being justified is an underweight person trying to bulk (I'm talking like 6"4 @ 150 lbs type of deal) or if you space it out accordingly. For example, New years eve/day, My birthday, thanksgiving, christmas are all 3 months apart so next year I'm going to try and do a full blown cheat day only on those 4 dates and be clean the other 361 days of the year. Also, this is just my own personal opinion but I consider at night out at the bars worse than a cheat meal/day. At 100+ calories per beer, it adds up fast !

Beer and bbq wings are too good to pass up 361 days a year to me. I pick one day and have a cheat meal but things come up and another cheat is bound to happen unexpectadly. If you train hard you can burn it off. Depends on what a cheat is. To me cheating is sushi and beers or captin crunch cereal. To others cheating is cheescake and candy and much worse food. I say moderate the "bad" foods but no reason to deprive yourself completly unless your compeating.

I agree. Cheating is a way to refeed your body and kick in the metabolism. Stokes the fire, and ubruptly shocks. I'm not saying going all out ALL day...but maybe not just a meal. It all depends on the person as well and how your body responds.

I NEVER cheated outside of dieting for competition (I'm one of few who couldn't), but I'm not anal either anymore. You guide how you feel after a cheat and watch the changes in your body...and how you feel. From there...you cheat...as YOU want. Besides...good for the mind as well. I find it keeps me sane.

Okay.... That's new... for some reason the site is not letting me use the quote button now.

KG is right on with her comment. I have tried lots of dif stuff now for cutting and I truly feel I can cut with the best of em. That said. Personally for myself I do a cheat meal once a week when cutting. It is a full blown eat anything I want with no limits at all ever for 12 hours straight kind of cheat meal. I normally shoot for at least 6K cals. (My cutting diet is 1800-2200 depending on phase) Now keep in mind I still go way high on the protien and "good food" but I just eat a lot more of it and then top it off with all the candy, cake, and any kind of crap I want. I also try to separate the crap from the good food. For example I dont fill up on good food and then stuff down 2 pieces of cheesecake. I will fill up on steak at say 2pm and then 2 hours later I will eat as much of that cheescake that I can. LOL
I also still do my 2 hours of cutting cardio (HIT) but instead of 2 one hour sessions I do 4 half hour sessions (one .5 hour session after eating crap)

That works awesome for me. Keeps me straight all week as I just keep in my head "I'll have it on saturday" and then saturday comes and I live it up guilt free. By tuesday I am lower fat than I was on Friday.
