    Sauna - shedding water weight

Posted this in the lounge but figure I could post here too in case.

Do continuous sessions in the sauna actually shed water weight and is there a certain temperature I should be looking for or duration ? How many times a week ? Is the water weight loss permanent or is it more just for pre-contest weigh-in's ?

I've lost quite a bit in a sauna (for weigh-ins) you want to be dehydrated for as short of a time as possible so steam or sauna as close to the weigh in as you can

it's temporary and you want it to be. It's very unhealthy to be dehydrated

the way I do it just sit in there for about 15 minutes then take a little break, repeat until you've reached your goal weight.

Why do you want to shed water weight...

It is not permanent... If you do not re-hydrate, you will de-hydrate

I was thinking of taking a Sauna every day, but still drink water, but wanted to shed water weight to reduce bloat / weigh less I guess.

Stupid idea then unless your going on a stage ?

if you are still drinking water you will not shed anything. Its a temp fix. usually to make weight for a comp

it is healthy to do so there is a benefit.

I wouldn't rely on the sauna as a 'boat reduction' strategy, but it does have other benefits as Gixxer suggested.

Ironically and counter-intuitively, drinking more water reduces water retention.

Thanks for the help guys. Yeah I do drink a lot of water/day (Recently went up to 8 L/day). Might just be in my head that I'm extra bloated some days.

    I'm sorry, I misunderstood.

I use this method to cut for a specific weigh in... then immediately after I rehydrate and gain all of the weight back that I lost.

It's not effective for bloat reduction in the long term.

Not for nothing, but if I recall, you're currently a pretty high BF%, no? If so, water retention really isn't gonna mean jack sh!t for you. It really only becomes an issue when you get down to 10% or less IMHO. Stay focused on the goal at hand that will make the permanent difference - bodyfat reduction. Then you can play around and tweak things like water and < > 25g carbs in your diet (just an example, not saying you do this). Forgive me if i'm thinking of somebody else though.

I understand. I'm due to post up pics this weekend and have major anxiety about it.
