    Opinions on rice cakes?

    Hi guys,

Just wondering what peoples opinions are on rice cakes? It's just I have eaten enough oats to sink the titanic and wondered if rice cakes would be an ok alternative?

    Thanks

I eat them everyday, brown rice unsalted. Tastes like styrofoam but ohh well. Just pick the ones that are made of brown rice and nothing more. You can find caramel and also choc chip flavoured rice cakes. I stay away from those since they have about 4-8 gr of sugar/ cake which comes in the form of fructose/glucose etc. Check the list of ingredients, it is always a good way of making good dietary decisions.

Nutrient wise, they're not on par with oats IMO, however with all else being equal, plain old rice cakes are fine. As stated above, stick with the plain ones. The flavored ones have sugar and a bunch of other added crap.

What about other carb choices? Brown rice, quinoa, lentils and beans, sweet potato, yam, cous cous, grits, etc?

Agreed with gbrice. Though I do eat myself on a regular basis. But, there more of my snack type of choice for food. Not really an oat replacer.

And G...grits? Really? You Americans baffle me....awful stuff! lol

Wait - you eat yourself? Why not have somebody else do it for you? *** I know, that comment is better suited for the lounge. Sue me!! ***

lol, I don't personally eat them - it's more of a Southern thing. I'm in Jersey, we don't do grits here, but I like to offer variety and they're an acceptable choice. For a cheat meal, grits done right (lots of butter, etc) are pretty damn good though!
