Thread: BCAA's, are they really essential?

    BCAA's, are they really essential?

I take ON whey protein, it definitely helps me recover faster. I noticed since i started on protein supplementation, that my LBM increased as well as my strength. I am looking into buying some BCAA's to further support my muscles. My question is, are buying BCAA's supps really necessary for bodybuiling, or is it a wast of money?

One of the best supps and one of the only ones you need.

Waste of money if you're running a caloric surplus but I can understand why someone would use them while cutting.

Why would they be a waste of money in a caloric surplus

Unless your getting enough BCAA from your diet they are not a waste...

Because if you're getting enough protein you're most likely getting enough BCAA's.

I would spend cash on BCAA before Whey or pre-work bullshit supps.

agree 100%. What kills me is most people think they don't need to supp w/ BCAA's because it is in their protein powder (whey or casein), but what most don't realize is that BCAA's need to be taken on an empty stomach by there self 15-20 mins before a protein shake or meal to allow maximum absorption in the body. When BCAA's are combined with protein powder there is a lot of competition for absorption and a lot of the BCAA's are not absorbed.

    are you serious?

I didn't mean for my post to sound like BCAA is not important... they are..
But there is plenty of research out there showing that if your taking supps, odds are your getting plenty. Of course one would need to verify by checking ingredients.

    Everything starts with protein...
Unless your getting 10 chicken breast, 2 dozen eggs, and some tuna everyday.... I would say you certainly need to be getting whey.

Pre-workout I like really just for the energy boost, although I do agree there is benefit to getting Creatine. Most pre-workout energy is cheaper and healthier than drinking a monster or redbull.

Just do a google search on the subject... there is plenty of good research... siding with both sides. then make an informed decision for yourself.

I think you need to take a look at how BCAA work in our bodies. Look at the above post 9 for a start...

Or better yet, try running BCAA for yourself, inbetween meals, pre/post workout and again before bed...then come back here and tell me what supp gives you those results.

Also there is no need for whey.
