i've really seen good growth in the traps by doing simple heavy shrugs. put on some straps for added weight grip strength, and go to town.
apply a balistic component and rep out.
for me, right now I shrug 335 (with straps because i couldn't move as fast as i do without them) for high reps.
i do 35 first set. second is like 30. I just try to rep as much as I can with the weight I have.
I could probably do way more weight, but I like to to move at a good clip when I lift, and a little higher intensity
will help you get that growth you're looking for.
and the traps are resilient. you could hit them every other and be ok (I do trap shrugs with every workout I do).
try to hit them hard and more often, and let me know what happens.

and I know I probably don't need to say this, but that guy is obviously cut as shit, has no bodyfat hiding any aspect
of his neck, and probably shrugs a 1000 lbs. heavily geared.
if you wanna get a nice cut look, work at building it up, and keep the bodyfat low. that always is guaranteed to get
    a good look and attention.

eod and high reps seems excessive. it goes against everything i've learned! we'll see if more will chime in...

Best for traps is deadlift but on every rep lift the bar as high as possible to bring your traps into play more. Also they are a bit like the calf muscle they are used all the time in normal life, So high rep normal shrugs as well.

for me its the seated row, but using the rope and pull to your teeth with elbows flared out vs. the conventional row.

of course dead lifts, but they hit the back side of the traps. do you thinks thats what makes them rounded? BTW if thats you in the avi, great looking traps!

As i say with the deadlift if you squeeze at the top you will hit the traps full on..even if its only 2 reps..(shoulders pushed as far back as possible) Yes thats me in the avi

That is a matter of size, primarily.

deadlifting is what made that guys traps so large. the movement simply requires the muscle to support the heavy weight. alot of pros don't even incorporate shrugs...say it's a waste of energy.

keep in mind that deads really hit that upper trap. develops the traps so that they rise up your neck.

do seated cable rows with high elbows (elbows at shoulder height) to also develop the mid to upper trap. this will keep that muscle in proportion while you're developing. you can also set up a bench perpendicular to the cable and sit on that while you're doing your cable rows to help hit that upper trap a bit more.

i did shrugs for a while and i really don't think they do much for developing proper mass in the traps as much as the deads. shrugs are maybe good for some detailed definition before a show but not for really building the traps. my traps are one of my best body parts.

cool, then dead lifts it is! when i did deads for the first time my traps were sore for days, i was shocked that deads worked the traps as well! i guess this explains Johnnie Jackson's traps being so huge, he competes dead lifting!

They're rounded just because they are huge. That's how muscles work: they become more rounded as they grow, since the attachment points stay the same.

devil's right. if you max out your triceps, they are sore for days. but you can blast your traps, and they recoup quick (or at least mine do).
I have no problem blasting them every other day....6 sets (three heavy at 335, then lighter with no wraps at 245).
and I should explain too, that the type of workout that I do is based on a component of speed. I do no
super high weight slow reps. I am positive if you upped the weight and really lifted heavy, yup, your traps would
probably blow up. just not my style. and this is probably more of what you've heard/read.

Exactly, you cant realistically change were they attach, so they have no where to go but out.

And tbh the only way I can typically make mine sore are heavy shrugs, I dont know why.
