Been looking into preventative measures to stop the onset of this plague. Apparently testosterone is converted into DHT which causes inflammation of the hair follicles on the head, starting with the most sensitive, and chokes out the cell, permanently killing it.
So there's some internal things to take that stop the DHT conversion, like propecia. But there are some serious sides with this I believe, such as ED and losing muscle, so not the route I want to take.
Then there's topical creams and shampoos that stop DHT from converting just at the scalp, like Revivogen. A bit expensive at 20 bucks a bottle, but probably the route I'll go.
Similarly, there's 17-alpha-estradiol (ell crannel / avicis / avixis) which works by converting test to female hormone at the scalp. And so there's less test to convert to DHT by the action of 5AR. This is a bit more expensive, and harder to find. Also, I'm curious as to what would happen if you put it on your nipples? Insta-gyno? Lol, don't want to try.The ingredients used in the Scalp Therapy formula have been proven to inhibit the 5-ar enzyme that is responsible for the formation of DHT. Dihydrotestosterone (DHT) is what causes your hair loss. When a man begins to lose his hair, certain genetically programmed follicles begin to develop DHT receptor sites. The DHT attaches itself to these sites and begins to treat the follicle as a foreign object in the body. This chemical change not only affects hair. It can also cause itching, inflammation, and oiliness. During this time, the follicle, under the attack of DHT, begins to miniaturize with every growth cycle, until after several years, it simply is too small and short to be seen. When the scalp therapy is used, both the formation of DHT and the ability for DHT to attach to receptor sites in the follicle are inhibited.
AbstractAnd finally, Rogaine Foam (Minoxidil), which stimulates new growth of hair. I read something about it possibly making things worse though, because it encourages more circulation of blood to the scalp, which can bring in more DHT to the cells. In a controlled, randomized double-blind study, 51 patients with androgenetic alopecia and increased hair loss (telogen rate greater than 20%) were treated by local application of hair lotions with and without 17 alpha-estradiol (0.025%) for a period of at least 6 months. Before and after therapy trichograms were taken and evaluated under standardized conditions. In 63% of the treated patients a reduction of the amount of telogen hairs appeared, whereas in the control group the same reduction was found in only 37% of the cases. Similarly, in the treated group only 11% of the patients worsened, in contrast to 50% of the control group who showed an increased telogen rate (greater than 10%). The amount of growing anagen hairs and of seborrhea did not change significantly in both groups. Side effects were not seen. These findings indicate that hair lotions containing 17 alpha-estradiol may have a therapeutic value in reducing androgenetic hair loss, if applied topically for a long period of time, similar to 17 beta-estradiol. However, no regrowth of new hair was found.
Some things like Ketoconazole, or nizaral shampoo, which just stops inflammation of the cells, and disregards the dht attacking it.
Thoughts? Accepting it and shaving, should the time come, is not an option! Fighting this to the grave.
