Aww man, always sad to see crippled animals. But you know what TR? They have no idea they're crippled. Ever watch a 3 legged dog hobble along on a walk with other (healthy) dogs? Tail wagging, sniffing around, everything the other dogs are doing. They enjoy life no matter what - so long as a good one is being provided.

Nope, the kitty isn't upset. Humans are the only species (well, primates are debatable) who wallow in self pity. Animals live for the present.

She won't let me touch her though. skittish. but i get closer every day. and just like a dog, she comes when i call her.

only thing I can think of is she didn't make it through the fence quick enough before the dog got a piece of her?

I have a cat that hangs out on my front porch. I'm pretty sure at least one of it's eyes is infected and possibly useless. I keep trying to get him to take him to the vet but like your cat he won't let anyone touch him, only get close. He will meow and circle around your legs, but as soon as you put a hand out he retreats very quickly. Damn cats. So he just eats my other cat's food and lives on the porch and in my bushes. Sad.
