skulls have always killed my elbows so i dont do them...
I agree with dec11. If it hurts then don't do it. I think parallel dips and cgbp are better exercises for the tris.
Have you had any previous elbow injuries? Hard to know if its just your technique thats causing you pain. I use the hex bar and a flat bench and dont have any problems at all. Try a lighter weight to maintain your form first up and see how you go. If there's no way around it and you're still in pain, follow the advice of the others and quit doing them altogether.
Duplicate.
I notice my elbows are in pain for a few days after doing skullz but only when im on cycle and using more weight
Steer clear of skull crushers mate! Quick way to get injured... Light weight if anything
Do them with dumbells.... Much better for your elbows
had to quit them too. Shoulder/elbow killers, especially if your older. Although when I refused to give up on them I found a slight inclne with no lock out at the top.
Cheers for the advice peeps think I might just blow them out all together, think my job don't help either I'm
A floor layer with puts a lot of strain on me forearms and elbows
If you do have some kind of injury that is causing pain then don't do it. If it is just a matter of getting use to it (like squat bar pain)... I say it is worth the effort. There are plenty of tricep exercises, but I believe that skull crushers are the mac daddy for tri's. Those blow up my tri's huge... I get sick strength from my tri's and when I want to go up on my bench and military press... I hit skull crushers hard.
I do two things that really help prevent injury with dynamic exercises like skull crushers
When I am coming back from a break or sometimes when starting a new split, I will often do warm up sets on every exercise and superset. So I might do pushups on my knuckles, then rope pull downs, then skull crushers. I do skull crushers lying down with an ez bar.. i think this is called a french press.
I think working the muscles in different ways and working the surrounding stabilizer muscles is one of the most underrated techniques a bodybuilder can engage in. It really hit home for me when I saw Greg Valentino on youtube saying you should work your rear delts before you launch into military presses otherwise you are practically for sure going to get a serious shoulder injury. Such a simple thing and yet how many times do we see some young guy launch into heavy bench presses or military presses with no warmup.
close grip bench FTW
Got it...
Ive always done them on a flat bench but they have never hurt my elbows. I feel like they give me great results.
