How are females differant to males??

Hey guys just wondering when it comes to planning a diet are the guidelines the same for males and females. My 16yo sister is over weight and needs to loose about 25kg! So before I start working the details out just wanted to know if there's anything I need to watch out for?

Be good to hear what you think from Slim and Sexy if your listening :-)

Hoping for feedback in this thread as well. My wife is getting ready to start a diet and doesn't think my way of doing it would work for her. She is probably right for a different reason: she wants everything to still be yummy. I have no "yummy" requirements.

It partly depends on what type of physique they want to achieve. Do they work out? Lifting and cardio or just one discipline?

My Mrs is the same as yours Johnny, she likes to 'taste' food. She followed a diet I gave her once and it's the only one she ever got results on. But she didn't like the blandness and she barely worked out.

Ok so this is what I have come to know and prob not in agreement with everyone lol...
Almost every form of diet works for every people on some level (when they SERIOUSLY follow it), the start phase is always going to see a lb. drop.
All of the sudden a heighten awareness in food intake/energy exerted is priority and there is no way zero results will follow.

After the body settles down from the initial shock of a little less food or food that’s not cr@p...all water weight and metab hit a plat....is where the fine tuning matters and makes the diff.
Like IF or cal counting or carb cycle blah blah blah they are all basically a person eating food that is made up of good stuff for the body needed to run rite which basically translate to sugar intake or foods that convert to sugar....I have yet to see the Dorito, ice cream, donut, chocolate diet to drop lbs. lol.

She can solely have her food/body work to lose the weight or solely exercise to lose weight or do a combo of both...
Some diets like IF or Tim F. Atkins you make the food/body chem do all the work...can be used to drop serious lbs. with no change in fitness (have seen it work with ppl I know up to 90lbs)
Or she can keep eating the same old way and bust @ss training/cardio
Or a combo of some food changes and some exercise...
It depends on what she wants to do/can fit in her life.

I follow the who body reaction to food/insulin thing (when I stick to it lol) it has THE best results for me and started (today ty) IF 2x a week to keep my body confused (just like the rest of me lol)

whatever she picks...have the house STOLKED with only those food choices, get a bunch of receipts and ingredients ready, pre make some meals...all will help when a craving hits and just the habit of wondering to the fringe at a certain time.
I mental prep myself ...buy work out gear or new shoes or my thermal purse for meals...all as a way to reinforce the "this is fun, cant wait to start, cant wait to use all my new stuff"

As far what to watch out for... mood swings! Lol
if she spends a lot of time with her friends and they are not doing the same diet she is, failure on some level at a few points are a given for a teen girl.
Allowing her to mess up and vent about messing up will help, with a motivation boost to forget the eff-up and just focus on the moment of rededication.

Maybe keep in mind that Women have actualy very diff reactions to to food than men, so you may have a craving for a food but she maybe feeling an actual loss of a connection/feelings from a food.../the smells/ the texture/ the taste all trigger in us a stronger reaction then men have, due to our brain wiring of connecting emotions with experiances...so you can imagine that if a lady gets excited and happy every time she has a pie cuz her brain connects the pie to every sunday dinner at grandmas or whatever and than has to never again allow herself the pie or feelings thoughts that are trigger from pie ..

The three main things that has continued to pop in my head re: females since reading your thread are:

    1) Do not fear protein powder

    2) Resistance training will not bulk you

    3) Do not fear good carbs

(Not sure if you will have her using protein supplements or weight training, just wanted to throw these things out there cause I would hear these things the most).
Over the years, I've heard the fears of the above probably more than any others. As far as what to watch for? I would explain to her about weight fluctuation for females and try not to freak out if the scales are constantly going up and down. Therefore, only weigh once a week and on the same day of the week. And, as I type this, I shake my head in pity for myself because I'm guilty of freaking out over the scales. lol. Have someone do her measurements and have this done once a month. Also, explain to her about her need to wear the exact same clothing when weighing herself or having measurements done.

Also, to be aware of everything she consumes. A little bite of this and just a little extra dabble of that can add up at the end of the day/week.

Explain to her how to read nutrition labels correctly, if she isn't aware of this already. To the majority of us, reading nutrition facts/labels is simple, maybe even common sense. But I'm constantly surprised by the amount of people who aren't reading them correctly.

Be very patient with her and try not to overwhelm her with too much info or info that may be too difficult for her to understand and do on a daily basis. She'll quit before she has really even begun.

I dealt with eating disorders from around that age until...well, a long time : ) so my thinking at that time and beyond was/is probably very different than most. Just a few tips that I thought of that can hopefully be useful to you and her.

Wish I could be of more help to you, Dr P. If I can think of anything else then I'll post along the way. Good luck : )

^ awsome Lady! agree 100% spot on

good carbs = relitive lol, depending on what you are following a good carb could only be allowed in veggy, or fruit, or brown rice etc. so def focus on what is in, what is put in the mouth.

Dr you may want to post what plan she is going to follow... so we can give helpful tips/ foods ect most of us here have tried EVERY diet

    All above it great...

Some questions: what is her personality? her food habits? sugar or salt girl? does she exercise at all? does she like sports?
and anything you feel okay sharing...

Bottom line: gotta find food which she likes which are good for her. That is the best way to make sure it works. Go thru the list and ask her what she likes and go from there. And the protein shakes sure do help a lot. Mix 'em up with flavors until she settles on a few she cannot wait to drink. And let her have a bunch especially to start out. She will be amazed she can have all of those shakes. I know you want her to eat real food but I promise the shakes will help a heck of a lot. One scoop will do.

But I can tell you finding the pre-approved foods first and foremost is the key. Otherwise it will seem temporary and not a lifestyle and no fun at all.

    Still thinking.....
