Trying to get my son to workout.

My son will be 14 in a few months. He is tall and VERY thin/frail. He's definitely hitting puberty with his voice starting to change and growing like a weed.

He hopes to play varsity soccer next year as a freshman but I just don't see it happening without him packing on some mass. He is very weak for his size......I don't think he could bench an empty Olympic bar right now.

I keep bringing it up to him (not pushing but just mentioning it) but he shows no interest.

Any Ideas? I'm not going to FORCE him.......just want to try to convince him.

I remember when I started working out in late high school and what it did for me. Looking back I wish I had started a few years sooner. Trying to get him ahead of the game instead of behind the curve like I was.

    Just feed him more

He will fill out just from the extra food

Yeah....been trying. He eats like a bird.

He was a little chubby before he started to grow and had become very self conscious about it. I think he's afraid he'll get fat if he eats more.

Figured if I can get him to start lifting that he will naturally start to eat more.

Pour oil into his meals without him knowing..... He will grow LOL

Drinking milk is a great option here.... As much as possible in this case

In the past I have found it so easy to drink 6 pints of milk in a day and the calories just come pouring in... pardon the punn

Throw some whey in there with the milk and bam, you will be onto a winner

You can hide the strength training while doing other activities. It doesn't have to be traditional lifting in the gym. Make up a game that involves a medicine ball. Go on a hike that he'd enjoy and load up his backpack. Then along the way, have him (and you ofc), put the bag down a lot and have to pick it back up to put it on. Take him out and cut down trees? Just try to think of stuff that doesn't seem like lifting, but will for sure be working his muscles. GL.
