"Mad Cow Disease" from HCG use

In a nutshell: commercial HCG made from donor urine contains nearly 3 dozen 'non-HCG' proteins with prion proteins a predominate contaminant.

Recombinant-HCG was free of contaminants.

Just great - now one more thing to worry about!

IMO wouldnt be too concerned as long as your HCG is coming from U.S. based producer.

While it's true the HCG products came from Switzerland and Denmark, both were from high quality pharmaceutical manufacturers.

The authors opinion's (one was from the USA and one from Canada) suggest that prion contaminants might be expected in all HCG prepared from donor urine (the usual source).

It's apparently not something routinely screened for in HCG preparations.

ive only ever seen Recombinant-HCG which is synthetic.

The only recombinant product I know of is Ovidrel®

It seems to be sold as a prefilled 250 mcg syringe which is equivalent to 6500 IU of "normal" HCG

I've seen costs anywhere from $55-150 per syringe (depending on co-pays, etc).

Haven't done any new research to see if it's available in other dosing forms, since otherwise you will need to dilute it yourself (no big deal).
